The OHIO Alumni Association's (OAA) mission is to connect, inform and serve the University’s diverse group of alumni and friends in support of the University’s mission and vision. With an alumni base upwards of 235,000, the OAA looks to engage alumni and friends through events, marketing and communication, social media, volunteer opportunities, continuing education, among other initiatives. It is the vision of the OAA to involve every alumnus in the life of the University.
The Career & Leadership Development Center (CLDC) supports all students as they move through their initial adjustment to college, to selecting a major, to acquiring internship experience, to developing leadership skills and helping students understand the application of these skills in a lifelong career development process.
The Assistant Director will have a shared responsibility (50/50) between the Career & Leadership Development Center (CLDC) and the OHIO Alumni Association with primary focus areas being: overseeing an university wide alumni mentoring infrastructure, enhancing and facilitating institution wide opportunities for career focused student engagement with alumni, training and supporting alumni mentors and student mentees, and providing career and leadership coaching. Recently, Ohio University implemented a Career and Experiential Fee starting fall 2018. This position, along with several others, is an institution wide strategic initiative to enhance career development for all students at the university.
Essential Functions: 1. (40% of time) Serve as the institutions lead in overseeing an university wide alumni mentoring infrastructure:
Foster a student/alumni mentoring infrastructure at Ohio University;
Manage the online mentoring platform;
Coordinate and oversee mentor/mentee matching process;
Collaborate with institutional stakeholders to coordinate alumni mentoring process;
Partner with Institutional Research to collect and analyze mentoring data and learning outcomes and objectives;
Oversee mentor reporting;
Maintain program compliance and standards; and
Help define KPI's (Key Performance Indicators) of the online mentoring platform to provide analysis for success -Design and include diversity and inclusion best practices within mentoring activities
2. (30% of time) Provide career coaching and internship help for students and alumni. This individual will assist students and alumni with all aspects of career development including identifying majors, career goals, resume development, preparation for graduate/professional school, and employability skills. The Assistant Director will also provide Leadership Coaching; an innovative service (executive coaching for students and alumni) that spans three 30 minute sessions where students learn to identify strengths, set goals, and articulate their accomplishments.
Engage students and alumni in activities related to chosen career fields; identify, address, and clarify each student's particular needs;
Engage students and alumni in leadership development;
Utilize technology and resources to guide students and alumni through the career and leadership development process;
Provide industry-specific coaching to students and alumni;
Educate and prepare students and alumni on the specifics of their job/internship search strategy, including document review, networking techniques, interview prep, and salary negotiation;
Assist students and alumni in leveraging the use of social media and other technology in their search strategy
3.(20% of time) Train and support alumni mentors and student mentees:
Facilitate and oversee all alumni mentor training (e.g. orientation, screenings, and ongoing trainings). Provide training through a variety of methods and engagement models;
Facilitate and oversee all student mentee training (e.g. orientation, screenings, and ongoing trainings). Provide training through a variety of methods and engagement models;
Manage relationships with mentors;
Build and maintain strong alumni relationships;
Ensure mentorship structure is clear, students and alumni have a set of expectations, and the mentorship process is outlined so all parties have an understanding of their role in the mentorship process; and
Facilitate ongoing check-ins with both alumni mentors and student mentees
4. (10% of time) Enhance and facilitate institution wide opportunities for career focused student engagement with alumni:
Develop and present educational programs and events for alumni and student mentorship;
Perform alumni outreach to develop, retain, and grow relationships with alumni mentors;
Identify, target and source alumni mentors;
Plan and attend alumni specific events;
Develop mentorship workshops and outreach presentations;
Assist with the organization of mentorship events; and
Coordinate alumni engagement and donations within the CLDC’s Career Closet with the aid of student supervisees. -Use social networking tools to enhance student and alumni networking and career building activities
