The Neural and Data Analytics Lab in the Department of Cognitive Science and the Halicioglu Data Science Institute combines large scale datamining and machine-learning techniques with hypothesis-driven experimental research to understand how large populations of neural activity collectively give rise to cognition, and how they are impacted by aging and disease. The lab makes use of invasive and non-invasive human electrophysiology (ECoG and EEG, respectively) and computational modeling.
Under direct supervision applies professional software concepts and department / unit and campus, medical center or Office of the President policies and procedures to small projects or portions of projects. Resolves routine programming problems. Works on issues and projects of limited scope. Follows standard programming procedures to analyze situations and data from which answers can be readily obtained.
Under supervision, the employee will work to develop a variety of neural datasets collected by the lab, and/or by large organizations and consortia. These data include gene expression maps, text-to-space relationships, electrophysiology data, connectivity maps, and other sources. This requires knowledge of Python, statistics, and time-series analysis. The employee will work on lab-developed, open-source software packages focused on neural data analysis, written in Python.
The employee will maintain and monitor the GitHub accounts for the lab and lab-developed Python software packages, answering open issues and emails related to software, and help develop tutorials. Significant experience with GitHub and Python is required, with experience in digital signal processing strongly preferred. Will also be able to communicate their work clearly, in both written and verbal communications. They will carefully document their work and annotate their code, and will possess the organizational skills that are required to work as part of a team.
Thorough knowledge relating to the design development, modification and implementation of software including object-oriented programming concepts.
Demonstrated experience with Python and GitHub.
Familiarity with time-series analysis and digital signal processing.
Demonstrated ability to process data and perform statistical analyses.
Ability to train and oversee undergraduate student assistants.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, see tasks through to completion, and communicate effectively with supervisors in a timely manner.
