Senior Library Technologistâ”Digital Technologiesâ”Technology Support
The Library is seeking applications for the position of Senior Library Technologist-Digital Technologies-Technology Support in the University Library.Â The successful candidate will perform skilled tasks in support of services and activities of the Libraryâ™s Technical Support. Supports library services with reliable, up-to-date, computing networks and operating systems as resources allow, and educates library staff about relevant and emerging systems technology. This is a full time position working Monday through Friday as a member of the Libraryâ™s bargaining unit staff.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
Installs, configures, maintains, and provides support for software, computers and other technical equipment (peripherals and printers)
Â Provide administration of Library users and accounts on University-wide server/cloud based management systems. (SCCM, JAMF, print server, Pharos, Active Directory, Druva, etc.)
Provide support to Library staff in use of University-wide cloud based applications(i.e. Druva, Gmail, Adobe,etc.)
Install, configure, maintain, and provide support for specialized non-supported software unique to library (Relais, Illiad, Aeon, Sierra,GFA).
Identifies and distributes technological resources (computers, peripherals, printers,and software) that support library services
Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoot specialized technical equipment (KIC Bookeye scanners, barcode duplicators, label printers, Digital Studio, Annex scanners, etc.)
Provides technology orientation, training, instruction, and support for library staff
Promotes an environment that ensures the integrity of both data and files on library computers through education, configuration, standardization, and problem solving
Serves as resource for computer and related systems applications
Keeps informed of new developments in hardware and software applicable to library use
Works to insure safety and security of technological equipment, including backup and encrypting workstations.
Gathers data about supported equipment and information on work performed
Writes documentation to support staff training
May be required to provide technical support and services for media equipped classrooms in library buildings as it relates to duties and responsibilities of the job.
May need to refer problems to vendorsâ™ technical support to resolve software or hardware issues.
Assists with the purchasing of technological equipment for Library departments.
Responsible for all the technology equipment in the Libraryâ™s conference rooms and Rock Makerspace Studio; coordinating ongoing maintenance and upkeep of AV equipment, basic troubleshooting the equipment and reporting issues to the vendors for repair.
Assists staff learning to navigate in the self-service conference rooms.
Trains and provides guidance and assistance to co-workers
May need to refer problems to vendor technical support.
Trains, schedules workflow, and directs student assistants
Performs related duties as required
Supervisor: Director, Library Digital Technologies
Works independently under general direction; makes independent judgments and decisions within scope of library policies and procedures
Bachelorâ™s degree with specialization in information technology or a related field; or two- year college degree with emphasis in information or computer technology and equivalent experience; or equivalent work experience (1-3 yearsâ™ experience in Desktop Computing Support preferred)
Working knowledge of operating systems and network clients
Experience providing technical support in an academic environment preferred
Capacity to learn new technologies and systems necessary to effective, continued job performance
Good oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate technical information to non-experienced or non-technical personnel.
Ability to provide training to library staff, one-on-one and in a group.
Good problem solving skills
Ability to interact favorably with co-workers and library users
Ability to perform detailed work accurately with reasonable speed
Possess a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive campus community
Successful completion of a test may be required
May be required to move and/or lift equipment up to 25lbs.
Ability to move around campus to the different Library buildings
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl to install cable and wiring around and under desks and other furniture.
Sitting for extended periods of time on computers
Ability to read small print and view computer screens with or without assistive technology
On occasion, may need to ascend and descend stairs
