Director of Innovation, Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute
The Reynolds Journalism Institute is seeking an outstanding individual to facilitate innovative experiments, projects and programs that improve journalism with the help of news and technology leaders as well as top students at the Missouri School of Journalism.
This 12-month faculty member will work closely with the Executive Director, Research Director and Communications Director as well as other staff and affiliated faculty to grow RJI's ability to develop, test and share industry innovations.
Organize and lead innovative initiatives and experiments in the various Missouri School of Journalism news organizations in conjunction with newsroom leaders, RJI's director of research and other faculty and staff who are seeking ways to test new ideas to share with the news industry.
Manage the RJI Fellowship programs working with journalists, industry professionals and students to guide and implement innovative fellowship projects for the industry that will especially strengthen local journalism.
Manage staff and facilities of RJI Futures Lab, including its integration into the School of Journalism's strategic plan.
Organize the annual RJI Innovation Competition that assists teams of journalism, engineering, business and other students as they develop technology solutions to problems or opportunities in journalism.
Produce the Innovation in Focus video series and other content for RJI's web and social platforms that highlight practical applications of new technologies.
Create programs such as the annual Women in Journalism workshop and other training opportunities that provide needed resources to journalism professionals while building new connections to RJI within the industry.
Participate in key gatherings of journalism and technology professionals such as the Online News Association annual conference to maintain important industry connections and forge new ones.
Teach one, three-hour course or the equivalent during the fall and s[ring semesters in consultation with RJI's Executive Director and the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies.
Consult with the Executive Director as well as the instructors of the convergence capstone class, AdZou and other existing or emerging client-based courses in the School of Journalism to ensure RJI clients and partners have access to students who can support relevant projects.
Work with other members of the management team to select and support RJI's residential, non-residential and institutional fellows.
A bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field and at least ten years of high-level experience as a media professional is required

The ability to report, edit and produce stories across multiple media platforms
Teaching experience at the college or university level
