In line with our mission, the Swearer Center is hiring a Department Manager to play a key administrative role. The position will work closely with the Senior Assistant Director of Operations and senior staff members to manage the Centerâ™s day-to-day functions, and manages all administrative, operational, facilities, technology, and financial functions of the Center. The Department Manager also plays a key role in implementing and managing special projects to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement throughout the Center, both by working to integrate and improve the Centerâ™s systems as well as aligning Swearer processes and policies with those of the University.Â The Department Manager manages key campus relationships to support the operational success of the Center, works closely with the Communications team to plan Center-wide events, and may support human resource operations as needed in collaboration with the Senior Assistant Director of Operations. In addition, this position oversees administrative support for the Centerâ™s Executive Director and/or other senior staff members.Â This position may supervise other administrative staff and student workers, and reports to a senior staff member.
Bachelorâ™s degree with at least 3-5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience managing an office or administrative unit in an academic setting preferred.
Experience with financial processes and administration.
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills and attention to detail.
Strong customer service and problem-solving orientation.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion in accordance with University policy.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with various levels of University administration. Strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Ability to interact with staff at all organizational levels.
Ability to interact professionally with diverse audiences.
Demonstrated ability to work independently in a demanding office environment with interruptions. Self-motivated and resourceful.
Ability to develop and implement policies and procedures.
Excellent computer skills. Experience with Google environment, project management systems (Basecamp), and/or Workday a plus. Ability to learn new systems.
Supervisory experience and leadership skills preferred.
Ability to work nights and weekends and other flexible hours, as needed. Flexibility to handle emergency needs.
Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.Â
This is a full-time exempt, one-year fixed term position with the possibility of extension based on funding.
