Job Summary Responsible for daily central Information Technology (IT) operations to include leading teams and managing processes associated with the organization’s information technology resources (including computer hardware, operating systems, communications, software applications, data processing and security), telecommunication systems, and software/database products. Activities include developing operational information technology polices and plans; managing the acquisition, implementation, maintenance and use of technology enterprise-wide, training and supporting technology users; and assuring voice, data, and video connectivity of Auburn’s intranet and internet services.
Essential Functions Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:
Leads/mentors Office of Information Technology staff; provides senior-level management and oversight of all Auburn information technology in the absence of the CIO.
Supervises the work of four directors, quality assurance manager, and senior enterprise architect who provide critical technology services to the campus. Supervision includes monitoring system performance, establishing and tracking metrics, guiding fault analyses and planning appropriate steps to correct issues identified in root cause analyses.
Supervises and assists in development and execution of quality assurance plans. This position assures that quality assurance management is engaged in integrating quality producing elements into the initial project planning phase
Leads a subcommittee of the Research Computing Governance team, and in doing so, helps bridge scientists’ needs for computing power with the appropriate technology. Serves as a member, either primary or ex-officio, of technology governance committees.
Work closely with the CIO to develop and operational information technology strategic plans and process. Input is generated by direct interaction with faculty, staff, students, campus executives, executives from other universities, and the private sector.
Minimum Education and Experience
Field of Study
Business Administration, Management, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related IT field.
10 Years of Experience
Experience leading and supervising a breadth of technical functions.
Experience in managing politically sensitive issues.
Experience interacting with C-level executives in public and private sector is essential and required.
Experience to include multiple specialties such as Enterprise Services, Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Operations and Planning, Academic & Research Computing, IT Business Services and Support.
Eight (8) or more years of experience in IT management to include direct supervision of full-time employees, project planning and associate budgeting processes; experience developing tiered support strategies for service to constituents in a large, complex university environment.
Minimum Skills and Abilities Fundamental knowledge of all technical disciplines common to technology organizations is required. Candidates should be prepared to discuss experience in high speed networks, telecommunications, software development, cloud computing, cyber security, infrastructure management, quality assurance, and project management.
Qualifications Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems Management or related field.
The Executive Director for IT Operations/DCIO functions as the Chief of Operations for all enterprise systems and IT services. He/She will work closely with the CIO to operationalize the Auburn IT strategic plan and assure continuous improvement in service delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience as a CIO or DCIO and possess demonstrable experience as a strong leader and mentor. He/She will have a record of successfully building relationships with campus constituents. The selected candidate will clearly articulate how a modern IT organization contributes to the success of a major land grant university’s complex environment.
