McDonough Career Services at Georgetown University seeks an organized and high functioning Director, Career Curricula & Communication . McDonough Career Services comprises multiple highly specialized teams dedicated to supporting the career aspirations of all McDonough Students and Alumni. These aspirations include successful employment placements, career promotion campaigns, executive coaching, leadership development and global executive presence enhancement. Key internal stakeholders across the Programs with whom the Director works closely include the Admissions teams, Program Office teams, MSB Office of Marketing & Communications, and alumni relations. The Director, interfaces frequently with students through advising interactions and delivery of group career programs. Outside of Georgetown, the Director provides representation at Admissions events, Diversity events, in professional associations, and at alumni networking receptions. Reporting to the Associate Dean, McDonough Career Services the Director, Career Curricula & Communication duties include but are not limited to:
Advances key strategic relationships across McDonough, and develops team-wide initiatives that facilitate achievement of overall student preparedness and career outcomes.
Takes direct accountability of strategic communications to our diverse set of stakeholders (prospective students & employers, current students & employers, alumni and faculty/staff).
Brings leadership in acting as a representative to inter-departmental initiatives and develops relationships to support and advance the Career Services mission across the school (e.g. McDonough website, Admissions events).
Serves as an external liaison for the MBA Career Center in development role for MBA Admissions City Tours, where they will deliver service offerings and career outcomes to prospective students in the US. These presentations include groups of 20-100 prospective students consider the full time and flex MBA programs and are interested in the Career Center's outcomes and services.
Across McDonough Career Services teams (Executive Education, MBA Programs, Master of Science in Management and the Undergraduate Program), identifies needs, takes initiative among senior staff to create effective career curricula and communications products that advance the needs and desired career outcomes of those student, employer and alumni populations.
Career Curricula - Strategy, Onboarding, and Delivery
In partnership with the Associate Dean, takes responsibility for the strategic execution of all career curricula programming across McDonough Programs.
Flexibly develops best in class career curricula for students at different stages of their careers (from Executives to Undergraduates).
Delivers career curricula for the MBA Full-time Job Search Course and the MBA-Flex JS1-2-3 series.
Plays a unique role in serving as the onboarding representative for prospective and incoming MBA students, and thus maintains a close relationship with the MBA Admissions team and initiatives.
Ensures that students are properly trained and supported in order to obtain one of four distinctly different outcomes: securing a job that best suits them, a campaign for a promotion with a current employer, leadership development, or enhanced global executive presence.
Strategic Communications Leadership
Oversees the creation of all Career Marketing Campaigns and Employment Reports for various Programs.
Develops and maintains content for McDonough Career Services on-line presence including External Websites, Intranets and Social Media.
Provides direct accountability for the MBA Career Center's Communications.
Establishes and drives a strategic communications plan addressing internal and external audiences including: current & prospective students, current & prospective employers, alumni, faculty, and staff.
Oversees projects with the support of a Graduate Assistant and directs the activities of the Graduate Assistant.
Coaching and Special Program Management
Works one-on-one with individual students on a per-request basis.
Establishes and maintains the McDonough Partners' Program for full-time graduate programs including: annual Relocation Workshop, and one-on-one (by referral) career advising to spouses and partners of incoming students; Assess the metrics and success of program year over year.
Oversees and delivers group and one-on-one advising for partners and spouses of incoming students.
Oversees the Internal Career Advancement Practice for students who are working professionals including a small caseload of promotions candidates, ad hoc webinars, and annual promotions workshop.
Curricula Digital Resource Development
Prioritizes innovation in the digital space to allow for easy access and increased outcomes for curricular content for our student population.
Develops digital resources to improve the quality of curricula presentation.
Creates process for and standardize collection of student success stories/profiles for use in variety of publications.
Requirements and Qualifications
Master's Degree in Higher Education, Business, Human Resources or related discipline
7-10 years of progressive experience in Career Development (preferably in a business school setting), Recruiting, or Human Resources field
Career development expertise with specific insights into job search and promotions strategy, tools and practice, 2 years of college-level instruction/teaching experience preferred
Exceptional executive-level presentation design and delivery skills
Expert interpersonal and workplace diplomacy skills, and knowledge of effectively conveying career services messages to key stakeholders; high-level competency with integrated communications
Strong public speaking ability, and excellent professional writing and editing skills both to inform and influence across digital and traditional print media
Ability to think strategically and develop new programs to address needs of stakeholders; proven leadership
Interdisciplinary mindset, ability to positively represent the career services among both internal and external audiences; must be strategic and innovative and focus on holistic, systemic solutions; demonstrated ability to collaborate and deliver results by working with others
Experience utilizing virtual content delivery platforms and other digital systems including but not limited to: Zoom, WebEx, Qualtrics, Salesforce, Basecamp, and Dreamweaver
Demonstrated ability to provide thoughtful, developmental career advising in one-on-one, small, and large group settings; strong leadership, advising skills are required
Understanding of adult learning styles
Career Coaching certification, preferred
Extensive experience in course development and deployment, knowledge of adult learning instruction and techniques preferred
Previous use of Drupal, Dreamweaver and familiarity with HTML preferred, knowledge of PDF form builder a plus
Competent with online media to include databases, inter and intranet, social media sites, and campus recruiting software
Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
