Reporting to the Director of Social Media, the Social Media Manager will be an integral part of RIT's growing social media team. He/she will help to tell the story of RIT as we journey toward being one of the nation's preeminent universities. As a Top 100 research university, RIT has a social media audience that numbers in the hundreds of thousands, and we're looking to expand our worldwide awareness.
The Social Media Manager helps to develop RIT's social media strategy and contributes to the day-to-day activities on a variety of social media platforms. She/he will use management tools, content calendars, and analytics to help tell RIT's story on social media and coordinate with other social media presences across campus. An ideal candidate will be capable of uncovering new ways to make content work smarter and be more personally relatable for our key constituents, has a passion and facility for communicating online, and the ability to help to manage the university's flagship social media accounts. He/she must be creative, organized, detail oriented, level headed, calm demeanor, possess a customer service attitude, sound judgement, willingness to learn, and be able to work independently in a demanding, fast-paced office setting. Strong interpersonal and communications skills are a must, as this position will be working closely with staff, students, administrators, faculty, and more.
Major responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Help manage the university's social media channels.
Work with Director to manage social media channels
Work with marketing personnel to identify and post relevant content
Create new content
Monitor 3rd party sites for RIT-related mentions
Assist in crisis communications by disseminating accurate information and monitoring social media for rumors/misinformation
Coordinate social media customer service
Address inquiries made on the university's social media accounts, ensuring customers are satisfied with results
Assist with developing and maintaining a social media calendar to coordinate social messaging
Assist in promoting the adoption of new social media tools
Paid Social Media
Assist with the implementation of paid social media campaigns
Monitor performance and suggest campaign improvements
Research and Analytics
Report on performance of social media channels and paid social media campaigns
Candidates should have the following required specialized skills:
Strong writing and communication skills
In depth knowledge of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and more
Experience with performance analytics
Experience with social media advertising
Knowledge of trends, best practices, and technology in social media, digital engagement, and content creation and marketing
Able to demonstrate a knowledge of social media customer service
A willingness to be learning everyday
Required Minimum Qualifications
3 to 5 years of experience managing social media accounts with thousands of followers
Preferred: Experience managing social media in higher education
