Project Engineer - Planning, Design, Construction & Scheduling 14138
The Design and Construction department of Planning, Design, Construction & Scheduling at West Virginia University is accepting applications for a Project Engineer position. This position will provide engineering and technical support to the Design and Construction Department.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Undertake technical reviews of construction documents, contractor submittals, work plans and as-built drawings.
Develop written Design Guidelines and Construction Standards
Develop technical specifications and assist with development of design drawings
Develop technical procedures and best management practices related to capital construction projects
Develop schedules using appropriate computer software such as Primavera P6
Utilize Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) software in support of design and construction
Observe and inspect construction work it the field for compliance with project plans, specifications and Industry Standards
Perform quantity take-offs and develop construction estimates
Research products, technologies and methods for potential use on projects and document findings
Assist and support Project Managers with planning, management and control of project scope, schedule and budget including tracking and reporting
Assist with the coordination of field work related to related to capital construction projects
Assist with obtaining permits related to construction projects
Perform various Construction Administration tasks such as submittal review, submittal tracking, change order review change order tracking, and schedule review
Assist with overall project documentation and reporting including electronic document management systems and Project Management Software
Assist with project close-out process including review of punch-lists, and Operation and Maintenance Manuals (O&M) manuals
Manage small design and construction projects including overall responsibility for project scope, schedule and budget. Small project will have budgets under $50,000.
Perform other duties and ad hoc tasks as required and directed by the Associate Director of Design and Construction
Work Hours: 8:15 a.m.-4:45 p.m.

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited Institution in one of the following areas: Civil/Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural or Industrial
At least six (6) months of experience in the following:
Engineering internship, co-op or other work in technical or engineering-related field. Work during college is acceptable.
Valid driver's license needed travel to various campuses, including WVU Morgantown Campuses, Regional Campuses, Regional Facilities and Auxiliary Facilities including Potomac State College, Jackson's Mill and WV Institute of Technology in Montgomery
The following certifications and/or licenses are preferred, but not required:
Fundamental in Engineering (FE), Engineer in Training (EIT), or other Engineering Intern certification that is prerequisite to a Professional Engineer (PE) License
