The primary purpose of this role is to develop and implement learning and talent management programs for employees of the University of Minnesota Foundation (UMF) and University-wide Development Community – located in colleges and units across the 5-campus University system. This collective major gift fundraising and functional support workforce (approx. 450 centralized & dispersed positions) fuels Minnesota’s largest charitable giving organization.
Learning and talent management programs led by this director help employees perform well in their current roles and prepare employees for success in new or expanding roles, so that the University-wide Development organization can achieve its fundraising objectives and meet evolving business needs.
The Director of Organization Development, Learning and Talent Management partners with Senior Leaders at UMF, U-wide Development Leaders, and HR peers within UMF as well as University-wide to ensure effective implementation and sustainable results.
Talent Management (40%)
Lead the development of process, tools, training and reporting for annual talent assessment and review meetings for UMF and U-wide development teams
Lead design and implementation of core HR processes (e.g. goal setting, mid-year check-ins, annual performance reviews, individual development planning, and succession planning)
Design or curate, develop, and implement leadership development program to ensure effective leaders at all levels across UMF and the U-wide development teams (e.g. new supervisors, mid-level managers, directors, and senior leaders)
Learning and Development (30%)
Design or curate, and facilitate training for leadership competencies to support org-wide strategies
Design and facilitate new employee experience that engages new employees, reduces their ramp-up time, and increases retention
Lead the design and implementation of U-wide Development job family intern program
Lead the strategy for expanding functionality of current Learning Management System
Support strategic functional training programs as assigned
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (15%)
In partnership with key stakeholders develop and implement strategic plan for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Organization Effectiveness (15%)
Facilitate employee engagement survey, action planning, and follow-up
Provide organization effectiveness consulting to leaders and teams (e.g. team effectiveness, new leader assimilation, facilitations)
Partner with leaders and HR as needed for organization design initiatives
Lead design and development of HRMS tools that support org-wide talent management programs
Bachelor’s degree in organizational development, business administration, or human resources; organizational development
Eight years of organizational development/talent management experience including performance management, succession planning, leadership development, learning and development
Ability to design and facilitate engaging meetings, trainings, and workshops with small and large groups, and across levels; incorporating principles of adult learning, instructional design, and change management
Experience designing, curating, and implementing learning strategies for leadership development, core skills development, and functional training
Ability to quickly build trust with senior leaders as well as peers
Strong collaborator; able to encourage input and translate into action
Strong presentation skills, able to authentically engage with audiences
Ability to think strategically and execute tactically, with strong project management and change leadership skills
Demonstrated ability to lead with influence across functions and levels without direct authority.
Excellent relationship management and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational skills; evidence of self-motivation; demonstrated ability to plan, schedule and work both independently and in teams
Intermediate level skill level in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Master’s degree in organizational development, business administration, or human resources; and ten years of experience preferred
External client consulting experience
Experience in other HR functions such as HR generalist or talent acquisition
Experience in higher education setting
Occasional travel may be required, in addition to occasional attendance at evening or weekend events.
