The Park School is a non-sectarian, independent, coeducational day school of 814 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The Park School is seeking a dynamic, flexible, and collaborative librarian for the Middle and Upper School Library and History teacher, full-time, 2020-21 school year. We are seeking independent and creative applicants who will support the library’s mission to inspire curiosity, support critical inquiry and grow a life-long love of reading. The position includes teaching one or two sections of Upper School History from one of these required courses: U.S. History to WWI (Grade 9), World History to WWI (Grade 10), or 20th Century History (Grade 11).
As a librarian for the Middle and Upper School library, you will work with a team of librarians and teachers in the combined Park School Libraries, which cover all grades K-12. The librarian collaborates on projects, manages a rich and inclusive collection of print and digital resources, develops library programming and displays to promote a love of reading, and serves as a resource for teachers in curricular planning across subjects. The librarian also conducts a combination of regularly scheduled library classes and flexibly scheduled research classes.
In addition, the librarian collaborates with the middle school language arts department and MS students to plan the MS summer reading program.

This program supports summer professional work by faculty on a distinctive scale. Established in 1989, FACA is supported by a $5.6 million endowment; currently, over 40% of all Park faculty participate in projects annually. Grants cover full salary and benefits for group or individual projects selected through a formal review process.
Under current policy, employees who have been at Park full-time for two years are eligible to receive full tuition remission for their children who attend Park. All candidates, including employee children, must meet Park’s standards for admission. (During the first two years of employment, faculty may apply for aid through the need-based financial assistance program.)

Among the qualities and skills we are looking for in a candidate:
Orientation to progressive philosophy and teaching methods
L.S. Degree from an ALA accredited library school preferred, and/or
Experience (3+ years) as a librarian for children ages 10-18 preferred
Experience (3+ years) as a classroom teacher in social studies and history preferred
Broad knowledge of current literature for young adults introduce patrons to high quality literature and promote a life-long love of reading
Excellent research and reference skills through a variety of online and other standard resources, and experience and ability teaching these skills to middle and upper school students
Experience in selecting high quality resources for curricular, research, and recreation reading support
Experience in selecting and promoting high quality literature that supports the school’s commitment to promoting an inclusive and diverse community
Demonstrated skill in supporting and collaborating with teachers in identifying examples of literature and other resources across a variety of disciplines
Ability to provide cross coverage in a library that serves children from kindergarten through twelfth grades
Experience in and in-depth understanding of current technologies and methodologies that support school libraries
Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, especially in developing warm, trusting relationships with middle and upper school students, and in working collaboratively with a variety of middle and upper school teachers
