UChicago Career Advancementâ™s Student Preparation Team provides in-depth advising and programming to support students of all majors, career interests, backgrounds, and class years.Â The Temporary Career Adviser, Student Preparation, will assist in studentsâ™ career development by providing one-on-one advising and coaching on career topics such as resume/cover letter reviews, internship and full-time job search assistance, interview preparation, graduate school advising, career exploration, and other questions. This includes providing one-one-one career advising sessions to undergraduates in the various formats such as scheduled appointments, walk-ins, and electronic/virtual support and communication, and will maintain a regular schedule of one-on-one advising appointments for students. The Temporary Career Adviser will also provide support and assistance to team programs, projects, and initiatives as needed, including assistance with marketing, event logistics and planning, communication, creating and editing content for presentations and workshops, supporting outcomes reporting and analytics, and other administrative support as needed. Â
Counsel and advise students interested in a career in a variety of fields
Assist students with professional resumes/cover letters, general career guidance and industry exploration discussions
Support the execution of student workshops, student competitions, and other programming
Assist with tracking student data and reporting on student outcomes
Research for special programs and initiatives to help expand opportunities for UChicago students
Provide support to team for student programs, projects, and initiatives
Deep commitment to customer service and the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and work successfully in a fast-paced environment
Experience working with college-aged students and/or new recent college graduates
Strong coaching or counseling skills
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Strong interpersonal, quantitative, and networking skills
Ability to communicate to large groups as well as one-on-one with students, management, and alumni
Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and respond to change positively
Interpersonal skills; strong customer service focus and a high level of professionalism when interacting with internal and external clients
Outcomes-driven and action-oriented attitude
Ability to handle sensitive matters with tact and discretion and maintain confidentiality
Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
Education, Experience, or Certifications
Bachelor's degree or the equivalent required.
2 years of professional work experience in student services, counseling, project management, higher education, or related field required
