Gillen Brewer School seeks a strategically-oriented and experienced financial and business leader to fill the key position of Chief Operating Officer. This executive leader will work with the Head of School, Faculty, Board of Trustees, and Senior Administrators to provide strategic direction and management of a growing and thriving special educational environment that currently serves 84 special needs students and their families, growing to over 100 students and 90 staff over the next 2 years.
Title: Chief Operating Officer (COO) Supervisor: Head of School Hours: Monday - Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Calendar to Follow: 12-month Academic Opening: Immediate
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a NEW position for the Gillen Brewer School. The ideal candidate for this high-profile position is a strategic thinker who has exceptional leadership and critical-thinking skills. The COO works in close partnership with the Head of School and Assistant Head of School in support of the school’s mission and strategic plan. The COO will complement the existing CFO/Controller and determine what policies, technologies, and programs need to be adapted to respond to the growing needs of the school and its strategic priorities, as well as being responsible for the organization, management, and implementation of comprehensive business, financial, and investment initiatives for the school. This seasoned professional will be a key member of the senior leadership that oversees the day-to-day operations of the school as well as the “big picture” issues and ambitious plans that outline the school’s future.
As the school is in its final transition from a state-funded model to an independent school, and in the midst of a fundraising and design process for the purchase and renovation of new space and expansion of the program, the COO will assess the organization’s overall effectiveness in determining strengths and weaknesses for operational planning and forecasting. The COO will be charged with the refinement, design, and integration of cross-organizational systems and protocols to ensure alignment and operational efficiency. Internally, the COO is a thought partner with the Head of School and will play an integral role in developing and executing our strategic plan and, as a key presenter externally, will champion Gillen Brewer School’s mission and work as it relates to our sustained impact as we grow exponentially within and beyond our school.
This successful candidate is a creative problem solver and change agent who possesses high-levels of strategic and operational expertise and is driven toward delivering results in a fast-paced and mission-driven organization. As a top organizational leader, the COO will provide direct and indirect leadership to a range of staff across a variety of functions, including, but not limited to, Finance & Project Management, School Counsel, HR, Technology & Safety, as well as Strategy & Innovation.
