The Senior Grant Writer* position is responsible for conducting the full range of grant management activities required to research, cultivate, prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation, government, and corporate sources.
Create a comprehensive strategy for the growth of government, foundation, and corporate funding.
Ensure grant activity supports A Safe Haven's mission, goals, and strategic planning efforts.
Represent A Safe Haven at meetings with community representatives and participate in local committees related to A Safe Havens mission and goals to include Continuum of Care, homelessness, housing, youth development, social enterprise, substance abuse, mental health, and workforce development.
Remain apprised of relevant funding trends in government, corporate, and foundation giving strategies.
Prioritize projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely manner, meet deadlines and manage supplemental material required for proposals.
Collaborate with Executive Vice President, and Program Directors to successfully prepare and submit program information and data for use in proposals and reports.
Monitor legislation, regulations, developments and changes related to grants and other financial assistance, and keep abreast of all issues – compliance, reporting, accounting, auditing at the federal, state, and local levels.
Assemble and submit grant requests, including letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations.
Track the cultivation and stewardship processes of institutional donors and prospects.
Participate in bidders conferences with city, state, and federal grant opportunities.
Collaborate with the Program Management team to maintain compliance with grant objectives.
May provide direction and supervision to junior level staff
Travel occasionally to donor meetings
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of non-profit administration and social services
Knowledge of budgeting as it relates to grants and proposals
Must possess excellent writing, technical, analytical, problem solving, conceptualizing,project management, and research skills
Ability to be a self-starter who is flexible and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where commitment to mission is critical to success
Ability to be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and highly-organized
Ability to use online databases and other sources to locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information
Ability to understand budgets as they relate to proposals and grants
Ability to write foundation grant proposals and manage competing priorities.
Bachelor’s degree is required) 7+ years grant writing experience is required. Excellent communication skills also required. Project Management certification, is a definite plus! Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, e-mail, and internet. Familiarity with Foundation Center and GuideStar database is preferred
