The Financial Services Analyst II plays a key role within the Division and assumes the primary responsibility of billing, collections, and special event cash handling. As a member of the team, the successful candidate will need to be comfortable working under tight deadlines and rapidly changing priorities. The consequences of errors or oversights are extremely serious and can misrepresent our department's revenue or result in noncompliance with federal, state, and campus regulations. The incumbent assume a lead role in a close, team centered, and collaborative environment where communication skills will be paramount to the success of this candidate and the ability of the AP/AR team as a whole to meet pre-established goals.
The incumbent will work primarily with Berkeley Events and Conferences, Early Childhood Education Program (ECEP), Cal Housing, RecSports and Business Development to ensure accurate billing, timely collections and easy to interpret aging reports. In addition, the Financial Services Analyst II will also play a pivotal role in supporting other departments within the Division on establishing controls and processes related to proper billing and collection policies to ensure adherence to federal, state, and campus policy. The Financial Services Analyst II will work closely with the Controller's office on resolving moderate to complex bank reconciliations issues that occur between the Division's General Ledger (GL) and University's bank account for all transactions processed by the Student Affairs' AP/AR team as well as credit card and cash payments deposited by the rest of the Division. Furthermore, the successful candidate will need to find innovative ways to maintain accuracy, eliminate workflow kinks, and identify and resolve redundancies while still abiding to the applicable policies that govern the work and ensuring proper controls. Lastly, the incumbent will assume responsibility for ensuring University cash handling policy is followed at all times while providing direction to staff at most ticketed athletic events on weekends and/or evenings as predetermined with the Events and Conferences team.
1+ years of experience with handling Billing and Collections processes
1+ years experience with account analysis and reconciliation, including bank activities
Must be available to work occasional nights and weekends as needed
Ability to proactively identify, resolve and/or educate clients through effective communication
Ability to research various topics, produce and organize reports to summarize findings, communicating information clearly and effectively
Solid interpersonal skills, both verbally and written that demonstrates critical thinking, active listening, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling skills to communicate effectively with faculty, students, and all levels of staff
Knowledge and ability to execute cash handling practices and control
Experience with data entry, running reports, and synthesizing large amounts of data with strong attention to detail
Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality
Well organized, detail oriented, and dedicated to completing work timely in an environment with frequent interruptions
Ability to independently research, review and assess a range of variables to define key issues, evaluate reasonable alternatives, and make logical recommendations and decisions
Experience working with Campus AP and AR systems (PeopleSoft, CDS, CalCentral, Campus Solutions, etc)
Comfortable acting as the lead for a small team to accomplish established goals
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience. Hiring range is up to $34.87/hour.
