The Design Technology Lab, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a research assistant to work on expanding the design vocabulary for urban monitoring and automation.
The successful applicant will assist on a project to study the opportunities for improving the urban resource consumption practices of individuals and communities. As existing consumption approaches typically instrument or otherwise measure consumption of household appliances (or in aggregate) and supply a visualization to users at the granularity of the home, this challenge is a prime area by which to harness the synergy of digital communication networks and social networks: resource consumption is not only a technical problem of efficiency, but also a result of decisions made by consumers. Further, households are embedded within the surrounding community and individuals within households interact with their greater social networks. The candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists, graduate students, and undergraduate students.
Applicants must have a B.S. in Computer Science. Systems building experience is required.
For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae with full publication list, statement of research interests and three letters of reference, all in PDF format. If you have any questions, please email Prof. Jay Chen [email protected]
The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To be considered, all applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, transcript of degree, a one-page summary of research accomplishments and interests, and at least 2 letters of recommendation, all in PDF format.
