The CITIES Research Center at New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to study the economic impact of technology and automation on economic prosperity of cities. The CITIES Research Center's mandate gives priority to understanding the evolution and impact of new technologies on economic prosperity at the city level across the world.
The successful applicant will work with an existing research team of NYU professors to conduct research on new technology adoption, with particular focus on the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics. The project will seek to identify regional factors influencing the adoption of these technologies, including academic institutions, infrastructure investment, demographics and political economy.
The research involves analyzing extensive datasets, including labor market data (such as firm location, skill of labor force, salaries and occupations) and new AI knowledge data (such as number academic papers and citations of papers published in top journals), to develop both descriptive statistics and estimates of the causal effect of regional factors on technology adoption, economic growth and other measures of prosperity.
Applicants must have a PhD in economics, strategy or related field. Experience in econometric analysis (causal inference and identification) and in programing in python or similar languages are required. If you have any questions about the role, please email Prof. Pablo Hernandez-Lagos at [email protected] or Prof. Robert Seamans at [email protected].
The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled. To be considered, all applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, transcript of degree, a one-page summary of research accomplishments and interests, and at least 2 letters of recommendation, all in PDF format.
