Essential Job Duties:
Leadership: This position may provide leadership for one or more major products, geographic regions, or services in IES. This position may monitor designated service-oriented goals within geographic regions or support functions and tracks measurable economic benefits for both internal and external clients with responsiveness and customer service as a top priority. Occasionally, may be required to assist with recruiting IES staff. The selected applicant will need to maintain a good working level of awareness of all IES programs, industry needs, trends, and best practices.
Technical Service: This position typically provides hands-on technical assistance to clients. The solution to a client's problem will come from the incumbent's experience with the process, material, or product and can be frequently completed in the client's facilities. A client contract for services shall be rendered under the University guidelines for agreement.
Promotion: This position promotes all IES services, not only for the specific technologies, but for the entire range of services to support the IES client. This is achieved through on-site visits, networking, presentations, marketing materials, educational programs, electronically and by other available means.
Economic Impact: The Extension Specialist – Improvement Specialist supports the efforts to administer an objective evaluation system that measures the impact of IES programs for the economic benefit of the clients and State. The position supports both the survey process and the production of annual or other reports of program impact that is distributed to stakeholders at the federal, state, and local level. This position may assist with the on-going effort to inform and educate legislators and other stakeholders about the impacts and value of all the IES programs.
Relationships and Funding: The Extension Specialist – Improvement Specialist may be responsible for being the IES contact for a region and could also have statewide responsibilities. This responsibility would include visiting businesses, establishing contacts with all key community colleges, regional developers, community leaders, state leaders and establishing long term relationships with these groups. Meetings, presentations, providing services, and reports are required as needed.
Administration: The Extension Specialist – Improvement Specialist has administration duties that include proposals, Salesforce, time sheets, travel expenses, scheduling, and other normal business reports. This position is required to regularly attend necessary meetings and travels as required by the client.
This position typically provides front line day to day contact with IES's clients and partners by interacting and providing IES services in both public and on-site locations.
This position will also provide support so that IES may reach its stated short term and long term goals.
This specialist role and time of contract shall be designated under the University's guidelines for EPA Professional employment.
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor's degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
Demonstrated applied Lean Six Sigma performance improvement experience is required.
Demonstrated Lean classroom teaching experience, Kaizen (Rapid Improvement) facilitation experience and must be able to lead cross functional teams.
Experience coaching and mentoring people and teams together with experience training adult learners.
A strong work ethic and a willingness to travel are required.
High proficiency in the use of a personal computer is required.
Good communication and project management skills are needed.
Ability to work self-directed.
Master's degree preferred
Ability to provide Lean Six Sigma greenbelt and black belt instruction & certification. Use of Minitab and/or .JMP is a plus.
A working knowledge of other quality management principles, process excellence, and continuous improvement practices together with experience overseeing an organization's continuous improvement program is a plus.
Experience with customer service, community relations, continuing education, marketing execution, sales, and strategic planning are beneficial.
Required license or certification:
Ability to obtain a NC Driver's License within the first 60 days of starting.
