Essential Functions: Coordinate the university's STEM activities, internal and external to the university, supporting college and pre-college achievement and engagement efforts. Provide input into the assessment and development of the activities and initiatives, as well as community engagement strategies, in support of K-12 STEM education.Support management and cultivation of collaboration across university divisions, schools and colleges and identify scalable opportunities for high impact STEM education initiatives and programs. Work with the Division of Governmental and Community Affairs, Schools and Colleges, to identify and develop mission-aligned, community-based programs involving students, faculty, staff, and local residents and community organizations dedicated to solving Detroit's and the region's most pressing challenges in K-12 education. Based on recommendations and own research, develop relationships through targeted outreach and increasing public awareness of the university's various programs, services and initiatives. Record and track discussions with individuals and organizations over time. Assist in the programing of the STEM Innovation building on campus.Support and assist in management committees and advisory groups that support community engagement and collaboration across university, divisions, schools and colleges. Track and promote the visibility of the university's involvement in the revitalization of the City and the region.Develop and publish an annual report of the campus and community engagement activities around K-12 programs and STEM education.May oversee graduate student assistants in future.Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in education, business administration, science, public policy or related field from an accredited college or university required. Master's degree in one of these fields is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.Three to four years of experience in community engagement, project management, developing education programs or other related areas. Experience with database management, web-development, and social media highly preferred.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesRequires excellent knowledge, skills and abilities in data analysis and insight generation, translation of complex issues into actionable efforts. Proficiency in developing assessment tools, analyzing and interpreting data.Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple assignments with attention to detail and timelines. Ability to align business practices with strategic plan.Exceptional presentation, public speaking and verbal communication skills to communicate and promote the organization's vision and strategic plan. Ability to engage and influence others, foster collaboration, acquire mentorship, develop talent, and inspire to achieve the organization mission.
