Position Description: Primary Role: Under the direction of the Western SMIC Regional Director of the Smart Manufacturing Institute (CESMII), the Western SMIC Regional Operations Manager manages the overall operations and business processes of Smart Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (SMIC) within CESMII's western geographic region. CESMII's national SMIC network creates highly visible, credible, high value, regional 'Lighthouse' extensions of CESMII. The SMIC's allow CESMII to have a National Reach, while maintaining Regional attention to membership growth, satisfaction and retention. CESMII is the United States' national institute on Smart Manufacturing ('SM'), ensuring the power of change and innovation is at the fingertips of everyone who touches manufacturing. Headquartered in Los Angeles, CA, CESMII brings over $140 million in committed public private investment through a consortium of partners from across industry, academia and non-profit entities. CESMII is the 5th Institute sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and the 9th out of 14 in the national Manufacturing USA network of institutes, each with a specialized focus to improve manufacturing competitiveness in the US. CESMII's mission is to accelerate the adoption of Smart Manufacturing through sensing, control, modeling, analytics and platform technologies. CESMII's program and administrative is with the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and with HQ office in Los Angeles, CA.
A SMIC is a strategic and synergistic collection of satellites, wherein each satellite is an independent organization that has great industry engagement (academia, industry, government, others). Each satellite operates as a subrecipient to CESMII/UCLA in support of achieving the objectives and requirements of the DOE Cooperative Agreement. Each SMIC has subrecipient funding and scope of work aligned to its strengths and capabilities that help CESMII build: -Great connections with local Industry -SM Platform & Applications that have industry-relevant content/demos -Better relationships with local members -A robust distribution network for demonstrating SM technologies and delivering segmented Education & Workforce Development (EWD) training.
This role reports into the Regional Director whose high-level responsibilities include operating, improving, and growing the Western SMIC's services of: -Sales office / account management -SM Platform and SM Marketplace Demo center -Education and Workforce Development Training -SM consulting/assessment services -Host/project management Application projects and test beds -Ideation / innovation sessions.
In support of the Regional Director's high-level responsibilities, this Regional Operations Manager role provides hands-on, daily operations and business process management of the Western SMIC and be held accountable for: -Western SMIC Membership operations -Western SMIC Business and Operations processes -Western SMIC Compliance and Contracts
Interface: This role will interface with all levels of individuals within the Western SMIC satellites staff, CESMII staff, and UCLA program and administrative support team, other Regional SMIC Operations Managers, membership base, Department of Energy governance staff, vendors, and others as required to meet the needs of the business.
Lead the following areas of the regional SMIC: Operational processes require for planning and implementation of the following initiatives: Membership growth, retainment, and engagement; Education and Workforce Development services and Outreach; SMIC satellite operations, performance, and growth; and Compliance and Contracts Administration. This role directly reports to the Regional Director CESMII and will have indirect reporting relationships with the Western SMIC satellite staff.
