As the research at Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center continues to grow in scope and national impact, the shared resources of the center requires dynamic and informed leadership to direct a comprehensive review of services and operations. This position must be able to seek out ventures, consult on current administrative operations and considering current developments in the respective areas to inform the direction of these ventures. The position is under the direction of the Associate Director of Administration (ADA). The position will also direct all operational aspects of the Lineberger Cancer Center-supported shared resources facilities (27) to promote, facilitate, and optimize services provided and client satisfaction. Duties include the independent development/revision of relevant policies/ processes. In addition, the position will advise on operating budgets, rate setting, client access and use, financial and activity reporting and forecasting, marketing, communication and outreach. Analyze budget and usage data provided by the cores to develop and establish new policies and enact new operational goals, working to ensure that projects are meeting scientific and annual operational objectives. This position leads business development efforts for shared resources such as expanding client base through outreach with private and academic partners. The position evaluates issues brought by clients including, but not limited to, human resources, capital investments, and consolidation/expansion of resources. The employee will sit on multiple oversight committees as a representative of Lineberger Administration. Additionally, this position will lead the development of various sections of Cancer Center Support Grant related to Shared Resources and other extramural grant-funded programs. The Assistant Director serves as coordinator for the Shared Resources Oversight Committee as well as coordinates the findings of each shared resources oversight committee and reports findings to Caner Center leadership. The efforts described above operate under the strategic directive to provide high-quality, cost-effective and efficient shared resources to Cancer Center Members. An entity that is significant within the Center’s operation is the Immunotherapy and CART clinical trial unit and its embedded GMP facility. The Assistant Director will also administratively oversee this unit and work directly with the Center’s administrative staff, including the ADA, to continue to grow the GMP facility and their collaborations with the Healthcare system and outside academic and industry partners. They will develop and coordinate collaborative partnerships across the nation including contracts, grants, IND submissions, and other research related issues.
Education and Experience:
Combination of five years’ experience managing or leading a cancer center shared resource, a facility which provides services to cancer researchers that may include leading-edge technologies, high end instrumentation, technical support, and education OR experience in a department, division, or other business unit OR progressive responsibility of discrete work units. Pertinent experience would include involvement in hiring decisions, staff retention and training as well as budget and project management. Must have demonstrated ability to create collaborative teams and integrate various cancer center faculty and staff at an academic medical center, preferably an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, into a cohesive project team.
