The Fred Hutch/University of Washington Cancer Consortium was established in 2002 to build upon the complementary strengths and resources of three partner institutions: the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, which had been a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1976; the University of Washington, which had significant strength in cancer care and laboratory sciences; and Seattle Childrens, the regions major pediatric academic center. In 2008, the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, the cancer treatment center founded and equally co-owned by the three partner institutions, was formally added as a fourth partner. Cancer Consortium membership is comprised of over 600 faculty members from across the partner institutions.
This position manages key projects for the Fred Hutch/University of Washington Cancer Consortium. This position also develops and implements policies, procedures, and evaluations related to these key Consortium projects stemming from the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG), which is awarded by NCI to support senior leadership and infrastructure of the Cancer Consortium.
The incumbent reports to the Consortium Administrator within Research Administration and Faculty Affairs.Has responsibility for independently managing important Consortium projects.Special skills and knowledge are applied in managing project operations, developing policies and materials, and in carrying-out complex research administration responsibilities. Independent judgment is used in interpreting and applying project policies.
The scope of responsibility for Project Manager III is greater than that of Project Manager II due to the management of critical components of a large, complex grant.
This role performs the following responsibilities:
Set project goals and timetables, ensuring that all administrative activities are completed
Carry-out complex administrative responsibilities in support of projects, requiring advanced related education and/or experience
Help coordinate grant application and renewal process, writing portions of grants/contracts as required
Assist the Consortium Administrator in preparing for and participating in NIH site reviews, coordinating the preparation and submission of follow-up materials as requested
Lead the processes of gathering and analyzing Consortium data
Plan and attend committee meetings for senior leadership, monitor activities to ensure objectives have been met within designated time frame, and coordinate follow-up activities
Participate in the dissemination of project results and write portions of communications as required, including reports to funders, copy for website and print, and messaging to faculty
Organize and attend Consortium events
Develop project evaluation materials which may include questionnaires, data collection instruments, educational materials, and administrative forms. Review, edit, and revise project materials
Perform other responsibilities as required
BA/BS in related field required, MA/MS or PhD preferred
Minimum of five years of experience post-masters or PhD degree or seven years post-bachelors degree in project management in a research or academic setting
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage time sensitive projects
Must be comfortable developing and learning new processes
Database creation or maintenance experience preferred
Federal grant submission experience preferred
