Mid-Pacific seeks an innovative, inspirational, and creative educator to lead the Technology and Engineering Department in the High School. This is a growing program that includes, but is not limited to, engineering, fabrication technologies, industrial design, robotics, sensor technology, immersive technology, computational thinking/science and coding. This individual will partner with the Science department, Visual and Digital Art programs, and the Mid-Pacific eXploratory program (MPX) in emerging curricular areas of industrial arts, design thinking and prototyping, data visualization, reality computing and immersive technology.
The Computational Science Teacher/Department Head is seen as a leader of educational technology in support of Mid-Pacific’s technology vision and initiatives. Working in conjunction with the High School Academic Leadership and the Director of Educational Technology, the Computational Science Teacher/Department Chair will help create the curriculum within the Technology and Engineering department. As a High School Department Chair, this individual will serve on the Academic Chairs Group and the Curriculum Committee; fulfill specific responsibilities relating to both leadership and the administrative duties of the department; and, report directly to the Assistant Principal for Academics.
Candidate must be a self-starter who is passionate about Computational Science, coding, programming, networking and technology. This candidate will keep abreast of all facets of technology including, but not limited to: hardware, software, social media, and educational technology legislation. This individual should also serve as a pleasant, professional, knowledgeable and approachable point-of-contact for all Mid-Pacific constituents, particularly faculty, staff, students, and families. Effective communication of technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences through clear and articulate written and oral communication is required. A Bachelor’s degree in Computational Science or a related field from an accredited university or college and teaching experience at the secondary level in Computer Science or a related field is preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, and/or experience within Educational Technology and/or teaching
Experience with Apple iOS, Android, Mac OS X, and Windows
Demonstrated experience creating a collaborative, positive team atmosphere
Previous experience supervising colleagues
Familiarity or direct experience with an International Baccalaureate program
