Senior Front End Developer - Communications & Marketing - (20001020)
The Office of Communications and Marketing (UCM) has overall responsibility for marketing and brand management, media relations and content creation, producing various print and digital publications and communications for the University. The office optimizes the coordination of strategies and programs for these areas.
The Senior Front End Developer builds and updates Drupal websites, supporting university clients such as the Office of Alumni Relations, Advancement, UCM, and Tufts-affiliated schools.
The Senior Front End Developer works directly with university clients to understand their requirements and then builds and/or modifies websites, as needed. S/he uses front-end programming skills (HTML, CSS, JS) to support UCM clients who need modifications of existing websites. S/he will contribute to maintaining Drupal codebases and performing functional site testing, to ensure code performs as expected. S/he tracks and troubleshoots bugs as they arise and uses version control software to track changes. S/he optimizes sites for performance and sees sites through to successful launches, with an eye to minimizing future maintenance.
The Senior Front End Developer also takes a leadership role in ensuring that UCM websites comply with WCAG 2.1 guidelines. This includes participating in--and providing subject matter expertise for--a university-wide Accessibility Steering Group.
The Senior Front End Developer will work on a team with a Principal Web Developer to ensure the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs. S/he will collaborate on wireframing and prototyping with a Senior UI Designer, and work with an Associate Director, Digital Engagement on project requirements. S/he will also collaborate with the team's Web Developer, as needed, on WordPress theming.
The Senior Front End Developer reports to the Director of Digital Services.
Bachelor's Degree in related field, specialized training or equivalent experience.
6+ years of experience with Drupal content management systems.
Cross-browser compatibility and testing.
Experience building websites that are responsive across desktop, tablets and mobile devices.
Demonstrated ability writing clean and maintainable code.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to translate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
Demonstrated project leadership.
Ability to brainstorm creative solutions to problems.
Experience working in higher education is a plus.
Distributed version control experience with Git.
Special Work Schedule Requirements: Attend meetings at various campus locations.
