Reporting to the Coordinator of Reference, Instruction, and Academic Engagement, the Instructional Technology Librarian collaborates with internal and co-curricular partners to support a dynamic online service environment designed to assist and engage users with library resources and services in support of research help and library instruction, including the integration of library information resources and services into the course management system. This position facilitates student learning through the development and support of online learning objects, workshops, research guides, and tutorials. The Instructional Technology Librarian serves as a liaison librarian in assigned areas and contributes to annual and strategic initiatives identified by the University Library, and to the assessment of programs in his or her areas of responsibility.
Responsibilities & Duties
Teaching and Learning:
Facilitate student learning across disciplines through the design, development, and support of online learning objects, workshops, research guides, and tutorials according to best practices in online instruction.
Collaborate with library staff in Web Services; provide training and support for library colleagues and leadership to the library working group for the ongoing development of web-based research help tools, such as LibGuides, LibAnswers and similar.
Monitor updates and trends in current emerging technologies and identify possible uses in library services, as well as trends and practices in online and distance learning.
Identify and incorporate creative uses of technology to enrich the library instruction program.
Participate in campus discussions related to educational technologies and work actively to integrate Library services into the campus learning management system.
Provide training and support to library staff and the campus community on technologies and tools for academic engagement and digital scholarship, such as Neatline and Omeka.
Deliver in person and online information literacy instruction via the Library’s established instruction program.
Select material in relevant formats and languages to serve the research, teaching and learning needs of the DePaul University academic community.
Manage collection funds effectively and in a timely manner.
Analyze collection characteristics and collection usage data for assigned subject areas to better serve users; strategically assess and make recommendations regarding the acquisition, retention, and preservation of collections in assigned subject areas.
Actively engage with faculty, students, and staff in assigned subject disciplines in order to develop strong working relationships and integrate the library’s resources in curricula and research projects.
Promote library services and resources through interactions with faculty, students, and staff, including the institutional repository, digital collections, and relevant trends in scholarly communication and open access.
Analyze trends in assigned disciplines or departments’ research and teaching; be aware of departments’ current and future programs; use information to respond to user needs.
Seek opportunities for collaboration with University departments, centers or institutes in the areas of collections, teaching, and research.
Information and Research Services:
Participate in the delivery of high quality reference and research help in a variety of venues (e.g., in-person, e-mail, instant message), and support the online systems that facilitate their delivery.
Create and maintain online research guides in relevant areas.
Provide consultations for subject or other specialized areas of expertise.
Maintain an awareness of best practices in academic librarianship through reading in the scholarly and professional literature, participation in relevant conferences, workshops, and professional development programs, and apply knowledge to current practice.
Participate and represent the Library in university, state, regional, or national professional service activities.
Performs other duites as assigned.
Education & Experience
2 years of experience providing reference services/research assistance in an academic library.
2 years of experience teaching library instruction classes in an academic environment, preferably to undergraduate students.
Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent).
Demonstrated understanding of concepts and goals of information literacy as well as instructional design principles in an online environment.
Experience creating instructional and information materials such as interactive online tutorials, surveys, and guides.
Experience with course management systems (e.g., D2L, Canvas).
Demonstrated ability to learn new technology tools and skills and to conduct training for users and staff.
Experience using web authoring and hosting tools for instructional design and research help.
Demonstrated knowledge of copyright and fair use principles as they relate to online learning.
Understanding of web accessibility issues and familiarity with accessibility standards.
Broad knowledge of print and online information sources.
Experience consulting with instructors and other academic support staff related to course and assignment design.
Second master's degree.

Must be able to spend extended periods standing, sitting, kneeling, crouching, and bending.
Routinely lifting up to 25 pounds may also be required.
Visual acuity, hand-eye coordination and motor skills sufficient to use a computer, copy machine and other office equipment.
