The Communications & Copy Editing Specialist reports to the Vice President of Communications & Business Development and assists with editing and proofreading materials, maintaining consistency and professionalism across materials, and developing content as well as content strategy within the department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide copy writing and messaging support for various internal, external, and patient communication needs.
Provide editing support that includes fixing grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.
Validate that names, places, and organizations are spelled properly and that facts, dates, and statistics are accurate in written materials. This may involve reaching out to various resources across the health system and conducting online research.
Ensure that materials across various mediums--website, brochures, newsletters, etc.--convey information consistently, meet quality standards, and follow style guidelines.
Ensure that materials across various mediums receive routine updates and contain up-to-date, relevant information.
Further develop/formalize and uphold the organization's editorial style.
Further develop/formalize and uphold healthcare-specific protocols for the organization's editorial style, including clinical specialty and service naming.
Assist with project management and scheduling of certain materials within the Marketing & Communications team.
Develop and maintain monthly/quarterly/annual calendars of major material production deadlines.
Ensure written departmental materials follow a uniform style and adhere to consistent protocols.
Shares responsibility for managing production of regularly scheduled internal communications, including compiling content, editing, formatting, layout, and image selection.
Collaborate with team to help develop overall communications strategy, infrastructure, and processes on an ongoing basis.
Collaborate with team to find ways to improve overall organizational image and employee engagement through Marketing & Communications materials.
Participate in the development of an overall content management strategy for the organization.
Ensure that new content is developed for and incorporated in a variety of materials as the organization establishes new services.
Help identify naming protocols to be upheld in organizational signage.

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Communications, Public Relations, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
Five years professional experience in communications, marketing, or public relations required.
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills, including a thorough understanding of correct grammar and AP style.
