The Director, Imaging Services coordinates imaging operations for the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and all of its facilities including: management of ophthalmic imaging systems, processes and outcomes; development and monitoring of service performance metrics, oversight of imaging staff, including competency and productivity, ongoing assessment of equipment, timely purchase of equipment and assessment of care environment to ensure optimal patient experience.
The Director develops and implements policies and procedural controls for quality improvement, performance improvement, compliance, competency assessment, budget development and monitoring, inventory management and procurement. He/She ensures compliance with accreditation, regulatory and legal requirements in accordance with Enterprise Imaging, Value Analysis, Biomedical Engineering and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Research Department standards.
The Director collaborates with faculty and department leaders to select and implement imaging devices in alignment with organizational strategic initiatives to advance technology and improve clinic flow and operating efficiency. She/he also incorporates faculty input and process improvement principles as part of overall project management. The Director, Imaging Services coordinates imaging operations for the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and all of its facilities including: management of ophthalmic imaging systems, processes and outcomes; development and monitoring of service delivery performance metrics; oversight of imaging staff, including competency and productivity; and, assessment of care environment to ensure optimal patient experience. The Director collaborates with faculty and department leaders to select and implement imaging devices in alignment with organizational strategic initiatives to advance technology and improve clinic flow and operating efficiency. She/he also incorporates faculty input and process improvement principles as part of overall project management. The Director develops and implements policies and procedural controls for quality improvement, performance improvement, compliance, competency assessment, budget development and monitoring, inventory management and procurement. He/She ensures compliance with accreditation, regulatory and legal requirements in accordance with Enterprise Imaging, Value Analysis, Biomedical Engineering and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Research Department standards.
1. Coordinates service delivery and staff assignments in major area(s) of imaging services including but not limited to: Imaging Center and satellites, echography, cornea imaging center, operating room imaging services and portable imaging devices used throughout the patient environment. 2. Regularly rounds at all imaging locations to monitor operational flow. Identifies and resolves areas for improvement including service delays, proper alignment of patent volumes with staffing levels, equipment and supply needs, and other operational processes. 3. Creates and monitors metrics related to service delivery (volume analysis, cycle times, etc.), staff productivity, and equipment utilization. Formulates plan of action to decrease patient wait time for imaging services and improve staff/equipment efficiencies. 4. Promotes compliance with standards for patient safety and infection prevention as well as policies and procedures related to patient privacy and data security. Maintains department constant state of readiness for internal and external audits. 5. Works collaboratively with physicians and other stakeholders to standardize equipment purchases, workflow processes, and the delivery of imaging services across facilities to ensure high quality services are delivered to every patient, every time. 6. Communicates analysis of operational effectiveness at staff and Clinic Operations meetings. Outlines and monitors performance improvement initiatives. Promptly informs supervisor/hospital leadership and takes appropriate action on issues that impact clinic operations. 7. Evaluates anticipates Initiates remedial action to resolve/improve deficient operational conditions or problems, changes in work pattern, delays in patient care, and/or staff issues. 8. Regularly surveys physician and staff regarding imaging services quality and efficiency. 9. Assesses and coordinates imaging services needed for clinical research protocols. Recruits and assigns photographers to specific protocols. Ensures that photographers complete needed study certifications, including CITI certification if required, in the pre-study phase. Supervises the correct labeling and uploading of study images to reading center databases. Assists with training in special imaging techniques. 10. Recommends short, intermediate and long-term goals and objectives for departmental planning. Resource Management: 1. Directs imaging supervisor(s)/manager(s) and imaging staff to ensure efficient and even flow of work assignments, staffing, and patients in a dynamic work environment. 2. Properly aligns patient volumes with staffing levels. Ensures sufficient staff is properly trained to meet patient volumes. 3. Oversees staff including onboarding, training and development, performance monitoring, counseling, and terminations. 4. Provides feedback for imaging department staff performance, including creating goals for department with reward systems. 5. Oversees department financial performance and budget, evaluates trends, and consults with clinical operations leaders and faculty regarding financial issues. Assumes responsibility for monitoring and managing department supplies and costs. 6. Collaborates with Biomedical Engineering, Value Analysis, Enterprise Imaging: a. Supports the central database for equipment inventory, preventative maintenance and loaners. b. Ensures timely equipment preventative maintenance and active servicing maintenance agreements. c. Facilitates faculty requests for additional and new imaging equipment and provides input in Value Analysis negotiations to purchase new imaging equipment. d. Ensures faculty input on major issues related to capital equipment purchase and quality evaluations. 7. Collaborates with Office of Privacy and Data Security: a. Ensure appropriate agreements are in place before trials or acquisition of equipment or services, such as non-disclosure agreements and business associate agreements. b. Ensures vendorization process is completed before the acquisition of any equipment or services. c. Ensures compliance with established UM standards to acquire new technologies as loaner equipment from manufacturer for trial periods. d. Ensures any protected health information and other sensitive information is appropriately removed prior to return to vendor or final disposal. 8. Oversees audio/visual equipment in the Berrocal Auditorium and integrated conference rooms audio/visual equipment. 9. Performs related duties as required. Patient Experience Optimization : 1. Monitors service delivery and intervenes to reduce patient wait time. 2. Motivates and mentors staff to provide the highest quality service possible. 3. Monitors/Presents imaging center patient experience data and action plans for improvement. Evaluates/Modifies plan for effectiveness. 4. Collaborates with patient experience leaders to review opportunities for improvement and incorporate patient and family-centered care service delivery and interdisciplinary communication system in education and orientation programs program.

Maintains competent knowledge of electronic health records, electronic image capture and storage software and virtual systems of image capture • Comprehensive understanding of the DICOM standard to ensure electronic images, diagrams and related reports are appropriately captured, encoded, transmitted, stored, indexed, and linked in an advanced hybrid Electronic Health Record • Detailed understanding of PACS utilization in a healthcare delivery organization • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems related to multimodality image capture and management • Working knowledge of advanced electronic communications/networking technology
