Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Electronic Design Engineer (EDE) for SAS- Department of Physics and Astronomy. The EDE is an electronics engineer with knowledge and / or interest in all aspects of electrical engineering, with an emphasis on breadth and the desire to learn, to work with a multi-disciplinary team of faculty and staff to develop, implement and maintain instruments for scientific research. This position is responsible for the conceptual design and development of complex analog and digital electronic circuits, manage workflow and supervise staff.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Facilitates close collaboration with shop and project personnel and students at the University, at other U.S. institutions, and/or at other international institutions.
Participates in the dissemination of information related to the projects by contributing to the writing of articles and participation at conferences.
Recommends and writes specifications for and coordinate procurement of electronic and computer components, instruments, and systems.
Provides cost estimates and design review and creates/implements plans for prototypes.
Evaluate test results and make decisions for product development.
Serves as project or systems engineer as required.
Designs, implements, and repairs of electronic circuits, instruments, and systems for experimental research. Systems may include analog and digital electronics, hardware/software co-design, embedded processors, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA), sophisticated programmable logic devices (CPLD), data acquisition systems, and electronic monitoring/control systems.
Maintains and oversees the department’s Electronic shop.
Supervises technician and students.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field is required.
A minimum of five (5) relevant years of experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently
Strong organizational and communication skills
Motivated PhDs in Physics with extensive experience in electronics systems will be considered.
Requires thorough understanding of digital electronics including TTL logic, integrated circuits, and the architecture of modern, large scale computer systems
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be able to lift over 50 pounds and move equipment
