Assistant/Associate Dean for Admissions - (190001O3)
University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is currently seeking an Assistant or Associate Dean for Admissions to join the School of Law.The job will be filled as either an Assistant Dean or Associate Dean based on the selected candidate's qualifications. The Assistant/Associate Dean for Admissions at the University of Maryland Carey School of Law is responsible for recruiting and enrolling a talented, energetic and diverse student body. The individual in this position is a member of the Dean's executive team. The position is responsible for overseeing all admissions and recruiting activities, including applicant counseling; managing the staff and resources of the Admissions Office; marketing the School of Law to prospective students and applicants for the J.D., LL.M. and M.S.L. degrees; and providing strategic direction and vision to law school leadership and the Faculty Admissions Committee. This position collaborates with deans and directors within the School of Law and throughout the campus in order to ensure the delivery of high quality service. This position reports directly to the Dean.

Provides strategic direction and vision for the law school's admissions and recruiting operations.
Oversees all admissions and recruiting activities including applicant counseling and ensures that the office provides quality services to all prospective students.
Develops and implements a comprehensive annual and long-range strategic plan for admissions.
Supervises and manages day-to-day operations and work flow of the Office of Admissions.
Oversees and administers the admissions cycle and application review process of J.D., LL.M., and M.S.L. applications including first-time applicants, transfer, visitor, and guest applicants. Oversees the maintenance of a comprehensive database (ACES2) of the application pool (JD and LLM.)
Oversees official applicant correspondence, and processes for archiving applicant files and transferring data to OSA/Registration.
Reviews admissions files and makes recommendations as to admissions and scholarship decisions.
Serves as the primary reporting officer, and prepares admissions statistical reports for internal and external needs, including forecasting.
Develops and oversees dissemination of all digital and traditional communications to assist in recruitment and retention efforts for the office of admissions including mass mailings of printed materials, invitations, announcements, all email notifications, social media communications, outreach to pre-law advisors, top feeders schools and CRS prospective students, among others.
Develops and manages the budget for admissions.
Maintains current knowledge base of programs at the law school in order to educate prospective students about breadth and depth of law school programs.
Represents the School of Law during the fall recruiting/travel season as needed, both nationally and internationally. Develops and maintains relationships with undergraduate institutions, pre-law advisors, and applicants.
Partners with other deans on a regular basis in developing and implementing a long range strategic plan for the school, and providing input on policy and operational issues impacting the law school.
Serves as the staff liaison to the Admissions Committee as well as the point person for committee review related questions.
Ensure compliance with ABA and AALS standards for admissions.
Evening and weekend work required, primarily in the recruiting season.
Ensure efficient recruitment/interviewing and training functions to maintain a staff of well-trained, highly involved, and motivated employees.
Proactively represent the department through participation in campus meetings and special projects.
For Assistant Dean: Education: Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school. Experience: Nine (9) years spent progressively building a background in enrollment management in the undergraduate, graduate or professional arenas and student services activities, strategic and tactical planning functions. Prior experience in Law or Higher Education strongly preferred. Leadership: Three (3) years in leadership positions in higher education with a thorough understanding of enrollment management. Leadership experience of Seven (7) years or more preferred.
For Associate Dean: Education: Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school. Experience: Eleven (11) years spent progressively building a background in enrollment management in the undergraduate, graduate or professional arenas and student services activities, strategic and tactical planning functions. Prior experience in Law or Higher Education strongly preferred. Leadership: Five (5) years in leadership positions in higher education with a thorough understanding of enrollment management. Leadership experience of Seven (7) years or more preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of Admissions/student recruiting best practices. Knowledge of and facility with Banner and ACES2, or similar applications.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to make sound judgments about applicants' admissions based upon comparisons and interpretations.
Ability to establish goals, structures, and processes necessary to implement a mission and strategic vision.
Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and teambuilding skills to strengthen and cultivate relationships.
Excellent computer skills to include automated student information systems.
Proven excellent oral and written communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Ability to develop budgets and financial forecasts.
