The University of Michigan is seeking to hire a recruiter to support a new innovative large scale research study being conducted in the Emergency Department and Urgent Care clinic at Hurley Medical Center. The purpose of this study is to learn how young people deal with alcohol and violence and to learn how a newly developed program may be helpful for teens and young adults.
Recruiters will work in the fast paced Emergency Department and Urgent Care Clinic at Hurley Medical Center as a part of a supportive team. You will directly interface with patients in the waiting areas and inside patient rooms. During your interactions, you’ll inform participants of the various research activities they will have the opportunity to complete, gain informed consent, and collect survey assessments. As a critical component to the success of the study, the primary responsibility of this role will focus heavily on building rapport, patient engagement, community outreach, and encouraging participants to complete research activities. Shifts will be hours per day, typically sometime between the hours of 10am and 10pm. You will also assist with scheduling and assessment responsibilities and data tasks.
Your responsibilities will include:
Screen electronic medical records to identify eligible study participants.
Approach and consent potential participants in the Emergency Department and Urgent Care Clinic at Hurley Medical Center in accordance to research protocols, procedures, and good clinical practice guidelines.
Conduct clinical assessments with eligible participants.
Conduct suicide risk assessments following study risk assessment protocol.
Attend mandatory study specific trainings and team meetings.
Complete daily paperwork accurately in a timely manner.
Track daily/weekly recruitment flow, create daily/weekly reports to be sent to the project coordinator or project manager at the end of each shift.
Enter and clean data in ACCESS. Conduct prospective and retrospective chart reviews
Any other duties deemed necessary to maintain the smooth operation of the research program
High school diploma/equivalent required. This position requires flexibility and availability to work evenings and weekends, as well as some day shifts. Reliable transportation will be necessary in order to complete participant interviews at various community locations. We are looking for someone who has excellent organizational skills; is detail-oriented, personable, able to work independently but also be a team player; and can communicate effectively. Must be comfortable with meeting and getting to know youth and their family.
Some college credits or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, or related health field desirable. Previous research experience, clinic/hospital work or volunteer experience, and knowledge of the research process is preferred.
Most shifts will be afternoons/evenings, including weekends (typically shifts will range between the hours of 10am-6p, 12p-8p, 2p-10p), as well as some day shifts on an as needed basis.
