Summary: The Human Resources (HR) Generalist - Senior utilizes understanding of employment law and the Bank’s goals and objectives to provide leadership, management, and vision necessary to ensure the bank has sound HR practices. Provides guidance to managers, supervisors and employees on various human resource services, policies, and programs. Serves as a functional expert, employee advocate and strategic partner to Division Managers. Develops and maintains HR policies and procedures. Responsible for administrative (Core HR), compliance-oriented and strategic duties. Provides essential functions in areas of recruiting, employee relations and communications, employee development, payroll, HRIS management, benefits, and HR analytics.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform assigned duties in accordance with the Bank’s Mission, Vision and Core Values; and provide the Bank’s customers with timely, responsive and exceptional service in accordance with the Bank’s customer service standards.
Responsible for the development, implementation and administration of programs, procedures, and guidelines to help align the workforce with the strategic goals of Northwest Bank.
Oversees the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law or local governing bodies, or other divisions within the bank; electronic employee files, HR-related records and documentation for appropriate timeframes.
In partnership with Controller, act as primary for payroll processing.
Provide day-to-day benefits administration services, assist employees with any benefit questions or issues, coordinate open enrollments, changes, new enrollments and terminations, and training for employee benefits programs; communicate with providers concerning routine administration of benefits; reconcile benefit provider invoices.
Manage the development and maintenance of the Human Resources Information Services platform that meets top management information needs; keep employee records up-to-date by timely processing employee status changes in the HRIS system.
Provide assistant to bank employees with HRIS self-service functions: access, paid time off, benefit information, personal information, payroll information.
Complete research and analyze wage and salary reports and data to ensure the bank stays competitive with salaries and benefits in order to attract and retain the best talent.
Assist with employee separation processes.
Establish, gather, track and analyze data with useful HR metrics that support the accomplishment of the Bank’s strategic goals; prepare routine monthly reports; prepare periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested.
Works with all levels of management to provide human resources expertise in all aspects of the human resources function including but not limited to employee relations, benefits, full-cycle recruiting.
Develop trust and partnership with leaders, managers and associates while maintaining highest level of confidentiality and professionalism. Educate leaders regarding human resource management best practices and influence appropriate decision-making.
Collaborate with the human resources team to develop effective recruitment strategies and assist in recruitment process to fill vacant positions; post jobs, review resumes, keep ATS candidate workflows current by moving candidate through recruitment phases, pre-screen and/or interview potential applicants on experience, skills and education.
Plan and maintain new employee onboarding program supporting Northwest Bank’s culture and core values.
Organize and conduct new employee onboarding and help organize training and development initiatives relative to onboarding.
Contact applicant references and perform background checks required by Northwest Bank.
Oversee retention efforts that include the Sponsorship program, train new sponsors and track assignments.
Recognition: Play a key role in understanding and driving engagement levels in the company and supporting effective deployment of the bank’s employee recognition and rewards program, including adoption, administration, & leadership of the current platforms, selection of rewards products and inventory, and maintenance to the employee Intranet pages.
Events: Provide oversight and maintain a working schedule of internal employee events and activities at each office, and serve as a consultant for office location hosts on external client events.
Resolve issues promptly and provide support to employees in various HR-related topics such as employee handbook policies, leaves and compensation.
Perform effective, thorough and objective investigations to manage and resolve complex employee relations issues, providing updates to CHRO and requesting assistance as needed.
Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues
Assist and provide consultation in the planning, creation and implementation of performance management.
Administers performance review program to ensure effectiveness, compliance and equity within organization.
Update job requirements / descriptions when needed.
Conduct Exit interviews, analyze data and make recommendations to management for corrective action and continuous improvement.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state employment law and compliance requirements related to HR management.
Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls to ensure safe and sound practices.
Administer disability and worker’s compensation claims.
Responsible for participating in project management to create, revise or improve policies, procedures and HR practices to facilitate greater efficiency and customer service.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Management, Business, or related discipline. In lieu of a degree, 10 years’ combination of education and professional level human resources experience
8 years’ professional human resources experience with at least 5 years as an HR Generalist with experience in two or more HR functional areas or programs
Minimum 2 years full-cycle recruiting experience
Minimum 2 years payroll processing
Ability to handle and maintain confidential information
Aptitude in overseeing employee benefits
Capacity to calculate, analyze and use data to work with important HR performance measures, such as employee headcount and retention rates
Broad based knowledge of all functional areas of human resource management
Highly proficient end-user technology skills with HR software and platforms, such as HRIS or workforce management systems
Highly proficient computer skills including Windows-based software, word processing and spreadsheet applications, internet usage, electronic mail
Ability to analyze work processes and to make recommendations for process improvement
Ability to analyze complex and sensitive issues and situations, identify alternative solutions, and implement effective course of actions
Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment, manage multiple projects and perform efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Ability to build team morale and promote corporate culture
Ability to provide exceptional services in a high-volume work environment
