The Conference Manager develops and manages technical conferences and events by working with ASME advisors and member volunteers. Programs range from webinars and workshops to multi-track conferences and exhibit floor content.
Manager determines program structure and content. Reviews topics and facilitates content development via advisory committee process, abstract review and speaker recruitment. Engages companies and vendors for technology displays and small exhibits. Provides logistical requirements for the event (facilities, room setups, registration, AV, catering, signage) and works with event services team to ensure smooth onsite operations and customer satisfaction.
Collaborates with marketing lead and others to identify and attract desired target audience. Contributes to product/content marketing strategies based upon market data, research and advisor input. Travel required (~10%) for onsite event management, pre-event planning/site selection and other events and meetings as needed.
The focus is to deliver top quality, world-class content and knowledge to our target customer and to deliver memorable event experiences. Performance will be measured by meeting and exceeding revenue and attendance targets, achieving production milestones, program quality and customer satisfaction scores.
Working to build 2-3 industry events, the role will contribute to strategy and goals as part of the Industry Events Team. The Conference Manager should serve as the voice of the customer and the ASME liaison to the marketplace. This role understands the market and underlying technologies sufficiently to translate customer needs into desirable content.
Ideal candidate must have a Bachelors’ degree or equivalent work experience. Additional training or certification in meeting planning, group facilitation, marketing preferred.
Candidate must have proven work experience (3-5 years) in conference or content development, program management, product development, and/or marketing role with a track record of results.
In addition, candidate must have:
Demonstrated communication and facilitation skills, detail-oriented, project management skills, strategic thinker. Ability to interface and negotiate with volunteers and subject matter experts.
Proven capability to effectively manage concurrent projects and priorities, while maintaining sharp attention to detail.
Interest and/or aptitude in technical topics, STEM knowledge and experience. Understands how to facilitate, influence and engage volunteers.
