The Vice President, Operations is a member of a collaborative executive management group and is responsible for providing executive operational management. This position is responsible for developing operational policies and procedures, standards of care and standards of practice of the hospital that result in the delivery of the optimal patient experience, with oversight of operational performance and financial outcomes of various departments including clinical and nonclinical services. In collaboration with service line executives and other UPMC management, the Vice President, Operations has responsibility for planning, organizing, coordinating and directing the activities of operational areas that include but are not limited to Surgical Services, Imaging Services, Laboratory Services, Environmental Services, and Nutritional Services. In addition, there is oversight of off campus facilities, project management, construction, maintenance, engineering, safety and security.
This position recommends organizational objectives to ensure financial profitability through short- and long-range planning in order to achieve and maintain growth. The Vice President, Operations, continually evaluates the timely adjustment of organization strategies and plans to meet changing national, state and local needs. Exercises management responsibility in ensuring that efficient services are designed to meet the needs of patients, physicians, the public and the staff.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in business, health care administrations or a related field.
Must possess a minimum of five years of healthcare or hospital progressive management experience.
Must have superior communication, organization and human relations skills.
Collaborates with President, recommends, develops and updates strategic, long-range plans to support the philosophy and goals of the institution. In conjunction with department managers, sets goals related to productivity, financial, operational and service initiatives. Ensures progress toward goals.
Demonstrates an active commitment to a culture of safety through activities such as actively encouraging participation in measurement surveys and developing action plans to continuously improve the culture.
Effects changes in departments/product line service to maintain and enhance finance financial viability.
Ensures the hospital meets or exceeds regulatory and legal standards.
Prepares annual operating budgets (subject to approval), implements and monitors approved budgets.
