Kentucky Electric Cooperatives is the statewide association that provides services for the 24 local, consumer-owned electric distribution utilities in the state, as well as two generation and transmission cooperatives that produce power. Electric co-ops in Kentucky serve 843,000 consumer-members, providing power to one-third of Kentucky’s population. Association services include representation before the General Assembly, Congress and regulatory bodies; safety training; coordination of management training; and public relations support including publication of Kentucky Living magazine, the largest circulation publication in the state with about 475,000 copies mailed monthly, with a readership of 1.2 million.
Our organization is looking for a motivated individual to fill our role as Director of Safety and Training. This role provides safety and loss prevention leadership and expertise for Kentucky Electric Cooperative and all Kentucky member cooperatives. This role will lead the team in project management of rodeo and other initiatives. Accountable for compliance of training programs with applicable federal, state and local legislation and codes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages group of Safety & Loss Prevention Instructors to best serve Kentucky cooperatives.
Collaborates with Kentucky Electric Cooperative safety team and cooperative leaders to drive sustainable safety improvements by conducting or developing safety and loss prevention sessions for member cooperatives. Develops and collaborates procures the safety and loss prevention programs used in the member cooperatives.
Assists member cooperatives in educating personnel with regard to CPR, First Aid and Rescue procedures.
Advises and assists, upon request, East Kentucky Power, Big Rivers and UPPA Hot Line/Rubber Gloving work, working with hot sticks, URD and other areas of special interest to the cooperatives.
Develops and presents workshops/seminars as directed by the JT&S Advisory Committee and the President of KAEC.
Assists in the development of budget program goals to insure the continued advancement of safety in the Kentucky cooperatives.
Maintains and reviews accident records for metrics used to review programs and in developing goals for the safety program.
Coordinates emergency response manpower needs for member cooperatives during weather-related service restoration activities.
Works with appropriate state agencies on various safety and emergency response matters.
Maintains current safety manual utilization as a base resource for member cooperatives.
Works toward developing and maintaining a centralized record-keeping system of all cooperative employee accidents.
Attends and participates in safety and loss prevention programs, seminars and workshops in order to keep abreast of and develop resource material related to safety and loss prevention.
Investigates, upon request by the involved cooperative, employee fatalities and serious accidents suffered during the course of employment.
All other duties as assigned.
10 Years of progressive experience in managing and developing safety compliant programs.
Safety Certification preferred
Working knowledge of Federal and State OSHA safety regulations.
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and cooperative families to enlist needed collaboration in implementing regulatory requirements.
Ability to work with regulatory agencies, consultants, and other contractor personnel.
A bachelor’s degree preferred in a related field (Safety, Engineering, Safety Management, etc.)
