This job contributes to the department's success by planning and managing the development and implementation of large or highly-complex new projects that streamline operations, enhance recreational opportunities and improve the overall quality of life in our community. The position is responsible for planning, design and project management related to multiple projects with varied scope. This position will also strategically support and assist the Parks and Recreation Director with the development and execution of department's Capital Improvement Program, implementation of the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Plan and maintenance of the Trails and Bikeways Master Plan, by managing the planning, design, and construction projects in collaboration with various City staff. Responsibilities also include development and execution of annual park maintenance projects in coordination with the impacted divisions.
Under general direction, manages, administers, and coordinates various planning and construction projects related to planning, acquisition and development of parks, open space, recreational facilities and trails, while ensuring conformance with applicable city, state, and federal standards. The position manages assigned Capital Improvement Projects by completing cost estimations; providing design services; reviewing and approving expenditures/designs; coordinating permitting processes; works with departments and authorities having jurisdiction; reviews project progress; monitors contractors and project amendments; and coordinates communication with involved parties.
Bachelor’s Degree in planning, construction management, business administration, public administration, landscape architecture or a closely related field required.
Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience in project planning and construction project management or substantially similar position in the public sector, including two years of experience in the coordination of park projects or capital project management and some experience in planning and designing park and recreational facilities required.
At least one year of public sector work experience and AICP or CCM certifications are preferred.
Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet and project scheduling software to create and monitor project schedules required.
Valid driver’s license required.
