We are looking for a Development Manager to join our growing team at Project Success. Project Success is a youth development organization that helps students connect to their purpose. We work with more than 15,000 6th–12th graders in the Minneapolis School District and have over 100,000 alumni around the world.
The Development Manager conducts the day-to-day operations of the development team, works with volunteers to advance donor engagement, and cultivates and stewards relationships with donors and prospects. The Development Manager provides primary support to the Senior Director of Advancement, the Director of Development and Communications, and the Major Gifts Officer.
Institutional Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:
Conduct prospect research on prospective corporations and foundations, including information such as grant guidelines, deadlines, and key contacts.
Work with Senior Director of Advancement on cultivation strategy for each corporate and foundation donor or prospect, including managing a portfolio of donors and prospects for grants and/or sponsorships.
Write and prepare grant proposals, applications and reports including preparation of all required documents such as budgets, financial statements, and annual reports.
Maintain schedule of grant proposals including due dates for potential grants, along with follow-up communications and reporting for grants received.
Plan and execute all fundraising appeals for the annual fund (an average of three mailings per year and two email appeals), and other appeals as assigned.
Manage design and production of all appeals, including drafting content and package design.
Work with Senior Director of Advancement on segmentation strategies for each appeal and manage mailing list development.
Database and Online Giving:
Update and add records on The Raiser’s Edge, including biographical information, cultivation activities (actions), appeals, campaigns, etc.
Manage data queries and exports required for reporting, review, appeals and other mailings.
Create database reports to inform assigned solicitors and development directors of donor and prospect activity on a regular basis.
Manage all online giving forms needed for one-time and ongoing solicitation activities –including Online Express, GiveMN.org, PayPal, Benevity, Mightycause, Facebook and other online forms.
Manage processing of all charitable gifts to Project Success. Activities include collecting donations made online, in person and by mail, entering donation information into Raiser’s Edge-our donor database, processes/codes the gifts to prepare for deposit, and preparing recognition/tax letters to donors.
Manage production of the Project Success Annual Report. Work with the Development and Communications team to develop content, design and mailing list.
Work with the Communications Manager to co-chair activities conducted by community volunteers supporting advancement, primarily through the Engagement and Outreach Volunteer committee.
Work with Senior Director of Advancement on engaging volunteers in donor cultivation and stewardship.
Work closely with Director of Development and Communications on development event coordination and planning, and coordination of the event experience for program-related activities.
Plan special Project Success events (day and evening) as assigned.
Assist with auctions as assigned, such as silent and live auctions for events, if they occur. Gather item information, post information, and draft letters to the donors and winning bidders.
Work closely with the Senior Director of Advancement in various capacities.
Support Directors of Development and Advancement on major initiatives developed to support the advancement of the Project Success mission, such as anniversaries, campaigns, funding partnerships, etc.
Assists development directors in development-related activities as assigned.
Maintains confidentiality with unquestionable integrity.
Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
This position is a full-time salary exempt position, with a typical workweek from 9am -5pm (Monday –Friday). Some schedule adjustments and travel may be necessary to meet deadlines and work responsibilities. The compensation package includes the following:
Salary commensurate with experience, $45-55K
Generous PTO including 10 sick days

A Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization or seven years of related work experience, or a combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of MS Word, MS Outlook, and MS Excel, and working knowledge of database management.
Familiarity with the Raiser’s Edge or a willingness to learn.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, written as well as verbal.
Excellent project management skills including coordinating public events.
Prior experience with grant proposal writing and management.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituents; deal diplomatically with the public.
A strategist who is adept at planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking, organizing and following through while remaining focused.
Ability to work effectively under time constraints, meet short deadlines and adapt to emerging priorities with unexpected timelines.
Self-motivated, extremely reliable, ability to work with minimal instruction and supervision.
