Department: MCC Segal Design Institute Salary/Grade: EXS/5
The Communications Coordinator assists the Segal Design Institute (SDI), including the Masters of Science in Engineering Design and Innovation (MS-EDI) and MMM Program with a broad variety of initiatives and tasks related to: student experience, communications, marketing, admissions recruitment, industry relationships, community outreach, and alumni engagement. Helps engage the Segal Design Institute community.
This position requires some schedule flexibility for occasional early morning, evening and weekend work.
Areas of responsibility:
Manages design and development of program databases; compiles & analyzes data; prepares reports.
Reviews processes and recommends changes to incorporate state-of-the-art technology as appropriate into administrative, recruitment, marketing, and educational components.
Identifies service improvement opportunities that will better enable program/project to achieve its goals and objectives.
Communication, Outreach & Recruitment
Develops coordinated, consistent marketing and brand messages.
Incorporates social media and networking into program/project aspects as appropriate.
Strengthens partnerships with external resources by defining, promoting and marketing benefits of participation and involvement to the organization.
Creates and nurtures relationships with organizations to develop a network of enthusiastic organizations engaged via active participation in the success of program/project.
Reviews market trends to recommend future plans to increase revenue, participation, engagement, etc.
Creates events and develops/ delivers services that support and define a culture of Design Innovation. Writes, edits and produces content to engage current and prospective Segal students, faculty, and design industry professionals on digital platforms, social media channels and in print.
Develops written and visual marketing assets for the Segal Design Institute and its programs, working in partnership with McCormick Marketing, Kellogg Marketing & Communications, and outside design agencies
Works in conjunction with the Segal staff to develop and plan outreach activities and events
Co-creates and maintains a schedule of editorial outreach
Manage independent contractors for professional services including photography, videography and writing.
Observes program sessions and interacts with participants for purpose of gaining consumer insight, growing and strengthening program knowledge, and optimizing client satisfaction.
Develops plans and arranges meetings, workshops, events, etc. designed to exchange information, promote research objectives, and to build internal and external relationships within NU.
Identifies & obtains external expertise as needed and works with content experts for current and new programs.
Develops overall communications strategy.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in communications, integrated marketing, journalism or a related field.
Minimum 1 year related work experience or demonstrated equivalent experience.
Portfolio demonstrating professional communications and highlighting unique strengths in multimedia communications.
Working knowledge of online/web/interactive communication techniques and proficiency across social media platforms;
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite;
Excellent writing, editing and presentation skills;
Demonstrated ability to source, report and produce stories in a variety of creative and compelling formats;
Excellent project management and organizational skills and the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously on tight deadlines;
Must be self-directed and able to work in a team-based, collaborative environment.
Outstanding communication skills and dedication to great customer service.
Ability to identify opportunities to improve existing practices; willingness to explore alternatives; adaptability.
Master’s degree in communications, integrated marketing, journalism or a related field
4-years related work experience.
Experience working in a university setting.
Experience with brand management, developing and leading brand strategy initiatives that make complex ideas accessible to diverse audiences;
An appreciation for and understanding of the principals of Human Centered Design, Design Thinking and Design Innovation.
Working knowledge of university policies and procedures.
Familiarity with university academic information systems (PeopleSoft).
