Title: Part-Time High School Equivalency Mathematics Substitute Instructor

Reports To: Program Director, Adult Learning Center
General Statement of Duties:
This instructor will prepare a diverse body of students to earn a High School credential and/or develop the literacy and numeracy skills needed to qualify for further education, job training, or better employment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach Mathematics and Basic Digital Literacy to a diverse population of adults
Follow lesson plans that are aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adults.
Use formative assessment regularly to determine progress toward objectives and inform lesson planning
Use available technology and differentiated instruction to enhance lessons
Create a classroom culture that is motivating, inviting, safe and supports students in their academic and social-emotional growth
Collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve personal practice, classroom instruction, assessment and student success; as well as to achieve the overall goals and mission of the program
Communicate regularly with the program coordinator and director regarding student issues, and other problems or concerns
Adhere to all protocols and norms for communication, e.g. checking Email, phone, etc. on a regular basis
Maintain accurate records, e.g. attendance, time sheets, lesson plans, etc.
Remain current with essential program related information, e.g. HiSET, GED, Links, MCC resources, etc.
Interact appropriately and professionally with staff, students, visitors, and all members of the college and the community
Fulfill all outlined and related functions in a professional, timely, and thorough manner
Perform other related duties as needed and requested
Become familiar with and adhere to all Dept. of Education expectations for grant funded Adult Basic Education programs
Previous teaching experience
Ability to interpret and implement the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Culturally competent with experience and/or knowledge working with students, staff and/or faculty of diverse identities such as socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity and veterans, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities..
Self-directed, enthusiastic, reliable, and creative
Comfortable working as a team player to enhance the overall success of the program
Ability to accept constructive feedback from administrative staff
Previous teaching experience with adults
Pay Rate: $29.50 per hour; eligible for earned paid time off in accordance with state law.
Hours: Substitute Instructors may work Monday and Wednesday, 5:45pm to 9:00pm. Late August through early mid- June
Start Date: January 6, 2020 or as needed
