Grinnell College Museum of Art (GCMoA) seeks a Collections Manager/Registrar responsible for the preservation, documentation and care of all GCMoA collections objects, to support the pedagogical use of the collection, and to ensure the proper management of an active temporary exhibition program. The Collections Manager/Registrar handles collection care for over 5,500 objects, manages the collection database, and works directly with faculty and students who use the collection for teaching in the Print and Drawing Study Room, a space separate from the other museum functions. In addition, the Collections Manager/Registrar will be part of the team overseeing loans, shipping and insurance for temporary exhibitions. The Collection Manager/Registrar supervises student interns and assistants and reports to the director.
Bachelor of Arts or equivalent degree and at least 3 years of museum experience in art registration; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. • Expertise with one or more museum collections management systems, preferably EmbARK. • Attention to detail and accuracy, with excellent problem solving skills. • Expertise in ethical principles and professional practices in museum registration. • Experience creating digital images and related metadata. • Experience in art handling. • Strong organizational skills. • Demonstrated ability to communicate in written, oral and visual media. • Ability to work directly with faculty. • Able to work both independently and collaboratively. • Ability to lift and carry art storage boxes weighing up to 30 pounds; able to climb steps and lift materials overhead. • Demonstrated commitment to work with a diverse community and to interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds.
