Position Summary: UC Press has a mission to drive progressive change by seeking out and cultivating the brightest minds and giving them voice, reach, and impact. To this end, we are seeking an Author Relations Manager with stellar communication skills and an interest in academic publishing and relationship management. The ideal candidate will have fantastic executional skills, a strong attention to detail, and an understanding of marketing best practices. Reporting to the Executive Marketing Manager, the Author Relations Manager will be responsible for optimizing the author experience and managing communications with authors on behalf of the marketing department. As a member of the Books Marketing team this person will play a key role in managing our go-to-market strategy.

Job Close Date:
Maintains and enhances the day-to-day relationship between authors and the marketing team at UC Press. Manages complex scheduling across the marketing team, making sure projects are kept on track. Works with authors to ensure promotions reflect author goals for success; researches and analyzes new and innovative methods to ensure UC Press remains a leader in the field. Communicates marketing plans to authors and responds to author inquiries. Writes engaging messages to authors, and communicates in a critical and timely manner to all incoming requests. Acts as a hub for all constituencies in marketing involved in the communication with authors: marketing, publicity, rights, and sales. Distributes, receives, and tracks Author Promotional Questionnaires (APQs). Liaises with awards manager as required.
Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Minimum of five years related experience in marketing, communications, sales, or publishing, or an equivalent combination.
Understanding of marketing principles, strategies, techniques, and practices.
Excellent project management and organizational skills: proven ability to track, prioritize and complete work within deadlines.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Expertise in relationship management; specific experience working with authors is a plus.
Interest and enthusiasm in publishing and serving authors as part of a mission-driven workplace. Required
Basic knowledge of the organization, including its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Solid knowledge of programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Product Suite, with an interest and ability in learning new software and web-based programs.
Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with developed political acumen.
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external customers. Highly motivated and goal-oriented, with a solutions-oriented attitude. Preferred
