Essential Job Duties:
The Senior Classification and Compensation Consultant will perform complex, professional-level human resources consultant work in classification and compensation for faculty (tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure track) and administrative positions with concurrent faculty appointments.
Activities include, but are not limited to:
Determining the appropriate appointment type and category by applying policies and guidelines from the UNC System Office, the UNC Board of Governors, and NC State;
Advising colleges and academic units on compensation matters and determining appropriate pay;
Ensuring compliance with salary policies and guidelines and partnering with the UNC System Office to secure salary approvals as needed;
Assisting substantively with market determinations and the development and maintenance of faculty salary ranges; and advising on policies and best practices related to faculty and administrative appointments with faculty rank.
The position serves in a lead role for other classification and compensation analysts for issues related to EHRA positions, appointments, and salaries, and serves in the lead role for the Classification and Compensation unit in the Director's absence.
The incumbent will conduct complex analytical studies on human resources issues, collecting, analyzing and interpreting data and statistics and researching information. The senior consultant will require frequent interaction with senior administrators, managers, and college/division HR representatives. The incumbent will participate in special projects within University Human Resources (UHR) and with the Office of the Provost, colleges, and other units. The incumbent will plan, develop, and present a variety of training regarding policies, procedures, and best practices related to human resources administration, position classification, and compensation.

Bachelor’s degree and two years of progressively responsible professional human resources management experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions.
Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of job analysis for a full range of occupational fields, compensation principles and techniques, job design, organizational design, statistical analysis, salary surveys, and project management.
Advanced-level knowledge of relevant human resources laws, policies, procedures and regulations and the ability to apply them appropriately. The duties of this position frequently involve the application of NC State, UNC System, State and federal laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (or similar program), database queries, and analytic tools. Must have the ability to leverage different HR systems and/or applications (e.g. PeopleAdmin, PeopleSoft, etc.) for analysis and reporting purposes.
Demonstrated ability to develop and cultivate effective working relationships with people at various levels within an organization
Demonstrated ability to effectively lead initiatives and projects
Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex messages and concepts clearly and completely to a diverse audience
Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and complete daily tasks as well as short- and long-term projects concurrently
Ability to develop and deliver formal and informal training and presentations
Ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement creative solutions addressing a wide variety of University HR needs
Demonstrated experience in job analysis and classification, organizational design, statistical analysis, and project management.
Demonstrated experience conducting complex salary analyses and developing and applying effective compensation solutions
Experience performing labor market studies utilizing a variety of sources and participating in external salary surveys
Experience in higher education human resources
Familiarity with related State of North Carolina and UNC system policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulations.
Experience using a sophisticated enterprise-based Human Resources Information Management System (i.e. PeopleSoft) and Talent Management/Applicant Tracking System (i.e. PeopleAdmin, PeopleClick)
