Bachelor's degree and 5 years of related experience.
Advanced degree in communications, public relations, or related discipline. Experience developing and implementing multi-faceted communications and public affairs plans, programs, and initiatives. Experience communicating scientific and/or technical information to a general audience. Communications experience in a university or research environment. Prior experience working with the Department of Energy. Project management experience.
Ames Laboratory is seeking vibrant candidates for the position of Communications Manager to provide development, leadership, and oversight of a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy. Ames Laboratory is a Department of Energy funded, multi-disciplined national scientific research laboratory operated through contractual agreement by Iowa State University (ISU).
This position will oversee all communications for Ames Laboratory. The Communications Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of communication plans, internal and external communication pieces, public and media relations, marketing materials and plan, social media components, and the Laboratoryâs web content. The Communications Manager will also represent Ames Laboratory as the Chief Communications Officer on the National Laboratory Chief Communications Officer group. Reporting directly to the Ames Laboratory Director, this position works collaboratively with senior leadership to execute and share the laboratoryâs mission, vision, and core values with all stakeholders.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to work with and manage the work of others while overseeing and completing multiple projects with critical deadlines. Excellent political acumen and strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop and maintain valuable and collaborative working relationships is paramount. The successful candidate will possess outstanding written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality; quick and firm decision making abilities; and a commitment to fostering a collegial working environment.
