The Business Intelligence Solutions Analyst is responsible for evaluating, patterning, and visualizing data to support decision making. Through reporting, analysis, and data visualization, this position supports varied operational and functional business processes and actively participates in and influences discussions around reporting requirements, infrastructure needs, and design. While creating, enhancing, and maintaining the Cognos reporting infrastructure is an aspect of this position, the Business Intelligence Solutions Analyst must be able to draw on direct experiences that will help guide the approach for promoting and adopting user-friendly, visual dashboards. The Business Intelligence Solutions Analyst will work as a part of a team and collaborate with peers and customers to support the creation of a streamlined analytic and reporting environment that will meet decision support and reporting objectives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Understands business problems and recommends visualization solutions that can be easily interpreted by end users.
Develops reports using business intelligence tools adhering to established frameworks and standards.
Critically evaluates information from multiple sources and implements data management and business intelligence practices that streamline information delivery.
Acts as a change agent to promote the definition and implementation of strategic, data-driven roadmaps.
Monitors tools and infrastructure to ensure the availability and performance of developed reports and dashboards.
Supports application installations and upgrades and develops documentation and training plans to educate the user community on product enhancements.
Works with Database Administrators to test enhancements to the operational data store and maintains reporting and analytics environment to support changes.
Conducts individual and group training to enhance data and technical literacy.
Enters service requests and works with vendor support on identified issues. Conducts independent research as applicable.
Adheres to published policies regarding security and support and enforces security procedures at all times. Proactively assists in the identification, investigation, and mitigation of security risks.
Actively participates in departmental change management process.
Follows report request and approval procedures and ensures authorized use of data in report requests. Maintains confidentiality when working with University data.
Contributes to Business Intelligence team and departmental planning efforts on the development of standards, project plans, policies, and procedures.
Engages in travel once or twice per year for training or conferences as required.
Works regular University hours; some weekend and evening work will be required.
Remains available for emergency support to resolve critical issues outside of regular business hours.
Performs other duties as required.
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Information Systems, Information Science, Computer Science, or related field.
A minimum of 4 years’ experience working with business intelligence and data analytics tools (PowerBI, Tableau, etc.)
Experience administering Cognos is very desirable but not required.

Ability to utilize University ticketing system to communicate, prioritize, and document statuses of business intelligence requests and projects.
Ability to engage critical thinking, decision making, and researching skills in order to analyze a question or problem and reach a solution.
Ability to respond to any reporting/Business Intelligence related issue that may be presented. This includes the ability to quickly and accurately research, plan, and execute production fixes as required. Proper data analysis must be conducted with significant considerations for data integrity, high availability, system security, confidentiality, and customer support.
Ability to maintain, develop and deliver solutions that lead to business value.
Technical competency in supporting and maintaining a Business Intelligence or analytics tool.
