Position Summary: The External Relations and Communications Division at the UC Office of the President is focused on increasing public understanding and support for the university, and works with other departments at the Office of the President providing communications strategy and services. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Communications, the Communications Specialist independently oversees a comprehensive communications program for UC Office of the President Operations requiring internal communications and change management experience, excellent written and oral communications, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with teams on visual, digital deliverables and associated technical applications. Works with management and UCOP Operations and HR clients to develop and execute organizational communications strategy that facilitates successful change management and key initiatives, including diversity and inclusion efforts. This position will be an 18-month contract appointment.

Job Close Date:
Manages complex comprehensive communications programs, including written, visual, digital, and electronic communications, for UC Office of the President Operations. Produces communication pieces in a variety of venues. Identifies specific communications needs and develops the content and process for organizational improvements.
Job Requirements Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, English, organizational development, psychology, change management or a related field, with five years' experience.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various platforms, and most appropriate and effective applications.
Advanced skills to create, develop, and implement long and short term strategic communication plans.
Advanced skills to advise and consult management on all aspects of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information.
Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills. Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion when working with confidential and sensitive information.
Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills. Required
Advanced knowledge and understanding of technical applications to direct professional technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.
Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure; strong knowledge of current affairs and issues in higher education and / or health sciences.
Thorough knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.
Thorough knowledge of web editing and graphic design tools, Adobe software, copyediting tools. Preferred
