The UMBC Meyerhoff Scholars Program is at the forefront of efforts to increase diversity among future leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) and related fields. Created in 1988, the program supports a diverse group of high-achieving undergraduate students who have an interest in pursuing a PhD or the combined MD/PhD in STEM and an interest in the advancement of minorities in the sciences and related fields. The Meyerhoff Program currently supports more than 250 undergraduate students with annual retention rate of above 90%.
The Program Coordinator will have responsibility for outreach, recruitment and selection, data and records, and coordination of special projects within the Meyerhoff Scholars Program.
Specific duties include:
Coordinate Meyerhoff's recruitment and selection process, working collaboratively with UMBC Office of Admissions and Orientation, Office of Scholarships, and Undergraduate Marketing and Communications
Represent program at on and off campus admissions events - includes public speaking/presentation
Manage program applications in the university's application management system (Scholarship Retriever) and coordinate the internal review of applications
Coordinate annual Meyerhoff Selection Weekends for program finalists and their families
Coordinate Meyerhoff Program yield activities and events
Work collaboratively to create and disseminate recruitment and selection related communications (digital and print) to partners, nominees, applicants, candidates, and new scholars
Manage the program's data maintained in departmental databases and institutional systems
Using Scholarship Retriever, REX, PeopleSoft, RedCap, etc, create analytical reports on nomination, selection, admission, matriculation, demographics, academic progress, retention, scholar engagement and compliance, graduation rates, graduate/professional program acceptances and degree attainment, etc.
Fulfill approved data requests (internal and external)
Collaborate with the Meyerhoff Program external evaluation team and internal assessment committee on research projects
Coordinate collaborative effort to create and disseminate an annual report
Coordinate grant and contract proposals/reports - collaborate with program leadership to identify funding opportunities, create a schedule of work, develop and write proposals and reports
Manage department website
Lead unit in incorporating technology (DocuSign, RT Forms, BlackBoard, Box, etc) to improve business and operational processes for program partners, participants, alumni and staff
Collaborate with program leadership and partners (on and off campus) to identify and write applications for local, regional, and national awards and recognition for alumni, students, and program
Serve as staff liaison to Meyerhoff Alumni Advisory Board (MAAB)
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree
Three years of experience in higher education
One year or more managing data
Ability to maintain periodic evening and weekend hours for recruitment and yield events
Excellent interpersonal skills
Strong presentation, writing, analytical, numerical, and computer abilities
Strong attention to detail
Strong working knowledge of full MS Office Suite
Ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse groups
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work in a a fast-paced office environment, prioritize and complete multiple tasks with competing deadlines
Masters degree preferred
Experience in admissions/marketing, advising/counseling, or collegiate academic success initiatives
Ability to professionally represent the University and Program with knowledge and energy
STEM background or history of working with students in STEM disciplines
Grant writing or experience supporting creation and submission of funding proposals and reports
Experience with software and student information systems used in higher education such as FileMakerPro, PeopleSoft, etc, and be willing to learn and master new programs/systems/applications (BlackBaud, REX, RedCap, etc.)
Experience with multimedia content, website development (WordPress), and social media is desired
