Essential Job Duties:
The Research Associate independently supports, develops, designs, or executes moderately complex research activities for a single or multiple research projects as evidenced by execution of processes under the BPC-GMP bioprocess services program including upstream and downstream manufacturing of bioproducts, upstream and downstream bioprocess design, scale-up, research and development.
The Research Associate will provide support to projects under BPC-GMP's bioprocess services program; this may include, but it is not limited to, writing documentation, creating production schedules, overseeing raw materials and sample inventory.
The Research Associate will posses a thorough understanding of mammalian cell culture, recovery and purification operations for cell therapeutics, cGMP bioprocessing, development of cell therapeutics processes, analytical test development and execution and other related topics. The Research Associate is encouraged to support the active instruction of North Carolina State University undergraduate and graduate students, as well as industry professionals in subject matter related to biomanufacturing.
Primary duties of the Research Associate include, but are not limited to:
Providing input on course and process improvements.
Identifying equipment-related issues, identifying root cause, and making minor repairs/adjustments.
Ensuring safety in the laboratories.
Following documented procedures and policies within the BPC-GMP facility and at the University.
Performing relevant tasks/responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree, or relevant Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of independent research experience. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Good written and verbal communication skills, and particularly the ability to present information clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
Ability to conduct multiple projects at the same time in an organized manner. Results of actions and decisions will contribute to research program operations under the general guidance of the principal investigator.
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with different groups within NC State, clients, interdisciplinary groups, and students from the University and from industry.
Ability to work independently to collect data and analyze research results and the ability to work collaboratively with other team members.
Ability to adapt to constantly changing projects, priorities, schedules, and clients.
Knowledge of laboratory safety and biosafety practices.
Proficiency with MS Office suite, specifically MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint (or similar software).
Project management experience that led to successful completion of a project.
Experience in mammalian cell-based bioprocesses.
