Stanford University, Department of Anesthesiology, Pain & Perioperative Medicine is seeking a Life Science Research Professional 2 (LSRP 2) to perform functions and activities involved in defined research projects, and as a team conduct and analyze experiments. The LSRA 2 will be involved in funded cardiovascular research projects to study the alcohol flushing gene, ALDH2 and the effects of aldehydes on human health. Active projects in the lab involve 1) examining the cardiopulmonary effects of e-cigarettes exposure on cells and rodents 2) studying the effects of aldehyde production and metabolism with relevance to surgery and anesthesia (such as cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury).
We are primarily interested in a person that has molecular biology experience such as performing assays such as Western Blot, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, and cell culture. The person ideally should have at least 2 years research experience. Prior background in cardiac or endothelial cell work would be ideal. Funding for these projects is presently supported by the 2 NIH grants in addition to the University of California TRDRP.
Plan and perform experiments utilizing molecular biology techniques and rodent models in support of research projects in lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory. Interpret and perform basic analyses of results.
Formulate a hypothesis and design an experiment on how to measure aldehyde production and metabolism when cells and/or rodents are exposed to aldehydes such as those found in e-cigarettes or during cellular injury.
Review literature on an ongoing basis to remain current with new procedures and related research.
Offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with graduate post-doctoral individuals.
Maintain detailed records of experiments and outcomes.
Contribute to publication of findings as needed. Participate in the preparation of written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.
Help with maintaining a transgenic mouse colony.
Help orient and train new staff or students.

Advanced degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, bioengineering or science-related major.
Experience with cell culture, molecular biology techniques
Minimum of two years of previous research experience

Prior project management experience.

Bachelor's degree in related scientific field and two years of relevant work experience; or Master's degree in a related scientific field.
