University of Washington Physicians (UWP) is the practice group for more than 1,800 physicians and other healthcare professionals associated with UW Medicine. In addition to UWP, UW Medicine includes Harborview Medical Center, UW Medical Center, UW Neighborhood Clinics, Northwest Hospital, the UW School of Medicine, Valley Medical Center, and Airlift Northwest. UWP members also practice at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, a partnership of UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and Seattle Children’s Hospital.
The Physician Services Analyst is responsible for supporting the work of the within the UW Physicians (UWP) Physician Services department by combining their knowledge of decision support applications with analytic and presentation skills. Under the overall general guidance of the Director, the Physician Services, the Physician Services Analyst will research data, perform analysis, identify trends, present results, and make recommendations. He/she has technical expertise to prepare complex analysis with a high degree of accuracy and the operational and revenue cycle knowledge to interpret these analyses and communicate the results to a broad range of end users. In addition, the Analyst will translate the business requirements of the Physician Services team into technical requirements and liaison with UW Medicine Business Intelligence teams to deliver decision support tools. The Analyst will develop a keen understanding of School of Medicine Departments and business lines provided throughout UW Medicine, and will help contribute to their success.
Education: •Bachelor’s degree in business, mathematics, health administration, or other related field required. •Equivalent combination of experience/education may be considered.
Experience: •2-3 years analytical, auditing or training experience in a healthcare environment. •3 or more years of experience analyzing revenue cycle performance and/or physician coding performance. •Experience in preparing and presenting complex and advanced materials. •Experience in an academic healthcare environment preferred. Computer/Software: •Expertise in Excel. Proficiency with other Windows based software and Microsoft Office Suite products in a network environment. •Fluency with business intelligence and data visualization software (e.g. Business Objects and/or Tableau). •Experience using healthcare IT technologies, strong preference for Epic experience, particularly with Epic Resolute PB.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: •Coordinate the development and production of daily, weekly, monthly and ad-hoc reports to support the FPPS Physician Services team. •Ensure that presented data is clear, timely and meets the customer’s needs. As appropriate, conduct formal presentations detailing findings. •Support financial and business decision-making processes, ensuring sound techniques are used (e.g. data-driven analysis, consistency of methodology). •Analyze or develop business requirements to ensure alignment with scope; documenting and cataloging current state reporting workflows and developing future state reporting workflows. Serve as liaison between Physician Services and ITS Analytics team to translate functional requirement into technical requirements. •Integrate data from multiple sources such as FPPS, Medical Centers, CUMG, and external benchmarks to provide comprehensive analysis. •Create and manage analytic timelines and product. •Develop work in progress/priority project lists, coordinate team tasks, maintain issues list, and provide regular status reports. •Conducts financial analysis of new programs as well as existing programs. •Contribute and add value to the decision process. •Lead ongoing reviews of business intelligence and reporting processes and develop optimization strategies. •Serve as project manager for small projects or manage phases of larger projects using standard project management tools and methodologies •Provide recommendations for clinical operation improvement plans to address root causes of problems or discrepancies based upon analytic findings. Analyze reasons for customer requests. Re-direct and re-focus data requests into information / analysis products where appropriate. •Respond promptly to questions and provide timely resolutions or appropriate written feedback •Build and maintain functional professional relationships with stakeholders at other UW Medicine entities, including SoM and the medical centers. Collaborate and consult with FPPS internal teams including Patient Financial Systems, Coding & Charge Capture and Compliance. •Conduct all duties with excellent customer service. •Perform other duties, as assigned.
