Position Summary and ResponsibilitiesThe Associate Director of Annual Giving, Leadership & Affinity works as part of a high-performing, donor-centered staff team responsible for assisting Vassar's Annual Giving team achieve its leadership annual giving goals. Using a suite of technological tools, the Associate Director is responsible for developing personal relationships with an assigned portfolio of current and former annual giving donors that result in renewed or increased support to the college. Using email, social media, cloud platforms, video conferencing and phone, and personal visits, the Associate Director stewards donors, provides information that deepens their understanding and connection to the college, and solicits them for annual gifts. The Associate Director will report to the Director of Annual Giving, and will collaborate with the Senior Associate Director of Annual Giving, Strategic Digital Marketing and Analytics.
The Associate Director will focus on managing an annual giving program that includes personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for higher level annual gift prospects and donors with a priority placed on identifying those prospects who can move to the major gift pipeline. The Associate Director will also manage a portfolio of donors and build and manage a network of leadership lapsed donors. The Associate Director will need to develop strategies and to work collaboratively with colleagues in planned and leadership gifting, alumnae/i engagement, parent giving, Communications and Advancement Services to build the alumnae/i donor base while increasing per capita alumnae/i giving by leveraging the profile and structure of the upcoming Campaign.
Manage a portfolio of 1,000 current, lapsed and prospective leadership annual giving donors. Cultivate relationships with these donors via personal visits, email, phone, social media, video conferencing, texting, and TBD cloud platform. Perform 50+digital outbound touch points per day.
Execute monthly and quarterly touchpoint cadences across portfolio to ensure consistent and relevant donor communication.
Demonstrate to donors the impact of their giving. Provide information on college developments and programs relative to their interests. Share upcoming opportunities to attend events, volunteer, participate in Vassar clubs, Alumnae/i Association activities/services, or otherwise deepen their engagement with the university.
Solicit donors to make new gifts, renew or upgrade. Promote philanthropic opportunities, such as college giving priorities, crowdfunding projects, Founder's Day.
Develop and maintain a broad knowledge of the college, such as admissions, athletics, the arts, etc. Develop a network of contacts throughout the college to access for additional information. Build out a 'resource hub' of relevant content to share with donors.
Collaborate effectively with other members of the Annual Giving, Advancement Communications, etc. as part of a comprehensive multi-channel marketing program, including direct mail, email, social media and telefund channels.
Identify and troubleshoot challenges to donors' on-line giving and engagement experience and work with appropriate colleagues to address.
Identify and engage with alumnae/i influencers in the digital and social media realms.
Identify potential major gift prospects and forward these to colleagues, as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree required.
A minimum of five years of professional experience in direct sales, fundraising or marketing; higher education fundraising experience preferred. Education and experience equivalencies will be considered.
Knowledge of Vassar College programs preferred. Ability to be fluent in the 'menu' of engagement and philanthropic opportunities across the college to inform conversations and solicitations.
Adept at using social media, text, phone and video conferencing with the ability to create strong professional relationships across mediums.
Must be strategic, hardworking, and able to work with a high degree of flexibility in a highly-collaborative, fast-paced, goal-oriented environment.
Strong oral and written communication skills along with strong collaboration and organizational skills required. Must be able to prioritize effectively.
Excellent interpersonal skills, strong work ethic and readiness to engage alumnae/i and friends at a high velocity in a personalized manner.
Ability to work under strict deadlines.
Must be able to navigate and use databases, use multiple cloud-based platforms simultaneously to gain information and have familiarity with CRM systems and entering contact reports.
Ability to provide excellent donor support and comfortably solicit donors.
Must apply creative and entrepreneurial thinking, while applying sound judgment and conducting oneself with integrity
Ability to handle interpersonal relationships maturely, thoughtfully, and empathetically, including the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Must be able to handle confidential material responsibly and interact professionally with a wide spectrum of individuals.
Occasional weekend and evening work required.
Must be able to travel as needed. A valid driver's license and passport required.
