Indiana University East invites applications for a full time Visiting Assistant Professor in Fine Arts for the academic year beginning August 1, 2020, with a possibility of conversion to a tenure-track position depending on department needs. We are seeking candidates who are passionate artists and educators with a background in visual communication and design to join our growing Fine and Performing Arts Department to teach and develop courses within our Graphic Design concentration track. These courses include, but are not limited to, graphic design, typography, production design, and professional practices. Additional expertise in illustration, video, 3-D printing, animation, or digital photography would be desirable. Successful candidates should be well-versed in both contemporary art practices, as well as those trends within the field of Graphic Design to help students prepare for the job market. The position will also involve working with regional businesses, organizations, and freelancers to create and oversee internship programs and/or courses, as appropriate.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities :
Teach Graphic Design related courses, including online and in-person courses (3/3 teaching load per regular semester).
Start building and managing internship and/or professional practices courses for Graphic Design students.
Manage the learning environment through keeping accurate records, submitting grades and other reports on time, and enforcing school and campus academic policies.
Demonstrate the ability to develop a professional rapport with diverse populations within the university and community.
Maintain academic citizenship through active participation in departmental and campus service, and a shared responsibility for creating a productive work environment.
Earned MFA or terminal degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Studio Art or related field and an active creative record.
Deep understanding of Adobe Creative Suite.
Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching.
Experience in one or more of the following: interactive media, branding and marketing, 3-D printing, illustration, motion graphics.
